@Trix not an ITK question so hopefully it’s ok to ask: what exactly does an official transfer request accomplish?

Is saying “he hasn’t handed in an official transfer request” significant? If he actually hands one in does that really make it any more likely that they move him?

This has to be about a move. His father hasn't been well recently but from what I gather all is good with him now thankfully and Wilfried is back in training.

Why else would you put final straw? He's got to have put it being vexed about certain developments today and then realised it was a stupid thing to post. Can't read into it any other way without my lilywhite tinted glasses being on

Certainly not as good or as detailed an answer as Trix would provide, but handing in a written/ official transfer request generally means the player won’t receive certain fees/ bonuses they usually would in the case of a transfer if I recall correctly.

I may be wrong, but generally if they had in a transfer request they wave any payoff they would have been entitled too, if CP just sell him then he'd probably get a few million

The rule used to be that a player is entitled to a sum equalling 5% of the transfer fee if his club sells him. This was meant as compensation for uprooting one's family to a new location, often a new city.

However, the player will forfeit this payment if he puts in a written transfer request.

He’s had family issues recently. Just hope this is aimed at Palace and not that.

Deleted now.

Didn’t know about his family issues. I hope it’s about the move and at Palace (even tho that’s a snakey remark if it is). I hope everything is ok with his father.

Don't want to ruffle any feathers but I've just read that Parish the Crystal Palace Chairman is no longer following him on Instagram. Not sure if that's a recent thing or not or if true, read into it what you will but he is following other Palace players on there

I have no idea if he was previously following him (as checking steve parish's instagram is not one of my more common activities), but I just checked and he's definitely not following him anymore.

If the money is there, and Poch thinks we need him in the first team then I have no interest in value for money to be honest.

We have about half a billion in talent in Kane, Eriksen, Lloris and Alli that cost us about £22m and some development fees. We're in credit.

I'd rather us spend over the top on one of Poch's top targets than take another punt that may or may not pay off.

Plus if we can somehow get Sissoko going the other way I'd be dancing in the streets.

Agreed on this Wasted money on

Llorente
Janssen
Njie
Nkoudou
Sissoko
and more in last few seasons

Every single club has 'wasted' money on transfers even when they were run by the very best of Managers. Wenger and SAF have invested in real dross as well as those that turned out to be successes.

I gotta be honest, I look at that list and it’s not so bad. Sissoko I can’t defend, other than apparently Poch asked for him? But the others all made sense, gambles in positions that weren’t critical. In hindsight you can criticize any one of them, but that’s pretty unfair. Njie and Nkoudou were clearly attempts to dig up a Pulisic or a Bailey before they hit it big, they were always more likely to fail than succeed but when they come off you get a 100m player in your starting XI for next to nothing. We will take those sorts of gambles again, and some will pay off (and if they don’t, fire the scouts but don’t quit buying young talent!) Jannsen in a similar vein, everyone knows buying from that league is a risk, could get Batshuayi could get garbage. And Llorente brought trophy experience, something people have been crying out about us buying for years, and one of the only strikers with PL experience happy to play second fiddle to Kane. I don’t think any of those transfers deserve that much criticism - what does probably deserve some stick is not being willing to accept when those gambles don’t pan out and sell at a loss to clear room. We aren’t always going to have a China to bail out every Paulinho.

He might not be good enough for our starting 11, but I don't think we can afford an attacking player who is good enough to actually displace a current starter.

If Alli, Eriksen or Son were at other clubs, they'd be way too pricey for us, so signing someone good enough to displace them is unrealistic imo. We have to get someone who is a viable rotation option without seeing a massive drop-off in quality. Such a player is going to be expensive if they are proven, or risky, if they are unproven/cheaper. When Richarlison is being touted for 50mill, the market has gone batshit crazy.

TBH I'd love Malcom, too. I'd be happy with any of he, Zaha, Martial, Bailey or Pulisic.

I question how similar they all are though, and close to what we want they are. Initial theory seemed to be we want someone who's a WF/CF hybrid, like Son, who can fill in for Kane as CF when required, but equally maintain match sharpness by playing elsewhere when Kane is available, not solely reliant on replacing Kane for gametime. Martial, yes, Bailey and Zaha not so sure they fit that description, Pulisic even less so.

HOME GROWN IS NOTHING TO DO WITH NATIONALITY.

Correct, that's why the other side of the coin is Dier doesn't count as home grown even though he's English, spent his development years in Portugal.
