Many fans and perhaps the club, Poch and Levy themselves seem to feel we've already skipped the part where you need to win the "lesser" trophies because we're now a glorious League winning, CL finalist level uber club. Consequently they don't give a feck about the domestic cups and are happy to pass up fairly easy chances at silverware.

Can't progress in the league cup - we're above that now!

Can't try and win the FA Cup - the players might get tired or games might clash with league and CL fixtures!

No, best to win nothing and compete for the two prizes that are by far the most difficult to win.

Can you blame many fans not caring about the cups when Poch doesn't seem to? Can you blame Poch not caring when so many fans dismiss the cups as an irrelevance?

I really wish we were the uber club some people think we are already but we're not. We need to win stuff. We need to win because we've won nothing for so long. We need to win because winning cups breeds a winning attitude and is what leads to winning leagues. We need to win cups because it's what all the best managers and clubs do when they start a sustained period of success. We need to win cups because our players will eventually leave if they never get any medals.

We need to win because if we don't win a trophy we lose our record of winning something for every one of the last six decades which only United can match. This is important.

To be honest it utterly blows my mind how dismissive so many people are of the cups - we've only won three that I remember in my lifetime, in 91, 99 and 2008. They are by far the greatest memories I have as a Spurs fan and no amount of second place finishes or one off good results will ever come close.

Still, who am I to place importance on winning things? I was told tonight by a fan that he wouldn't even celebrate winning the League Cup, that's how little he cared.

Like I said, blows my fucking mind, attitudes like that.

A post worthy of a trophy

It's not about who played last night, but their mentality in second half when they strolled around. A mentality that will cost us when it matters in the league and CL. The players out there were good enough, their attitude not.
Does it reflect on Pochettino, or even the club?

We have to rest players at some point. We're playing two games a week. Would you rather we rested players against utd or real?
The team was good enough to win last night. But they didn't.
We also want to give other players a chance to prove themselves. You can't have it both ways.
We lost, we try to learn from our mistakes and move on.

Absolutely, I agree with you. I would be less pissed off if they would have won 0-2 with us being crap for 90 mins than us losing the way we did. The problem is for the long term, that it's happening every year. I love Poch and I really want him to lift some silverware.

We all wat them to win a trophy.

Personally i'm happy that we played so well in the first half as it shows our fringe players have the ability. They just need to focus for the full 90 and not let the other team back in.

Poch didn't look like a man who didn't care last night. He looked pissed.

If we had a 11 players with Poch's mentality we would win every game :D

throwing away a 2-goal lead is unforgivable in any matches
good to see poch was pissed off, i would worry if he didn't

You know when our new stadium is complete, and they're putting pictures up on the walls. Will they be putting up pictures of King and Robbie lifting the league cup? Or of us celebrating cl qualification or drawing in the bernabeu?

People can knock the cup competitions all they like but winning trophies matters. I just wonder if this is being drilled into the players.

Which is mainly what people are talking about. The team was fine last night (the only difference is I would've had Kane on the bench, given no-one else in that team has actually scored more than one goal this season).

The problem is the hubristic attitude which pervades the club, but most importantly (and strangely) the fans, which has decided that winning a major domestic trophy is somehow beneath us - and all in aid of some pie in the Sky dream of winning one of two trophies we are incredibly unlikely to win.

Going out of the League Cup provides almost no advantage to the club whatsoever, and for Spurs fans, who have seen the club win the square root of fuck all for over 25 years, to be dismissing it as some kind of unimportant hindrance to the club is one of the most ridiculous things I've seen in a modern football age full of ridiculousness.

Did you ask if the players cared about the premier league when swansea got a draw or chelsea beat us? No.

Shit happens we switched off and conceded goals and lost the game.

Do you think poch wanted to lose last night? The players? The fans?

Nobody wanted to lose last night. We rested players because it was our only chance to. We put out a side that was strong enough to beat west ham but they didn't. We put a team out strong enough to beat swansea but they didn't does that mean that we don't care about the prem?

Yes out of the possibility of winning the prem, the cl, the fa cup or the league cup, the league cup is going to be the lowest priority. Doesn't mean we don't try to win it.

It's written in the stars that his first trophy has to be something nice....

Like the champions league or premiership.

Still gutted that we lost to West ham. We had the team good enough to beat them.... *sigh*

There were plenty of fans last night who literally said they wanted to lose to get out of the cup.

No because you can not win every game in the league, isn't that obvious? In a cup game you win or your out, you don't get a chance to recover next week. So you can't give a half arsed effort against rivals and expect good things. Shit happens when you relax in your mind because you think a game is won or not important.

We shouldn't be giving a half arsed effort in any games.
