Following tonight's defeat, I'm curious as to what people think will happen in the future.

Do you think Poch has what it takes to win us a trophy? Any trophy?

For me it's difficult, in terms of league form this is the best Spurs team I have seen. But it's still not good enough to win the damn thing, and city are looking indestructible this season so it will take a monumental effort to get past them let alone Man u and Chelsea.

Our cup form up until now under Poch has not been great. Hopefully he can turn it around as I'd love nothing better than to see him winning some silverware with us.

I think he does have what it takes to win us a cup but only if he /the players change their attitude towards them. Otherwise we'll continue to be potless.

I think the problem is he has a bad case of Wengeritis caused by Levy whispering in his ear about money. Hes been conned into believing that top 4 and no trophies is everything. Ardiles needs to have a word in his shell like and explain "Glory", "silverware", and flash his medals, and set him back on the path.

We've been the best english team three years now and got nothing to show for it. Reckon he'll start picking up trophies after he leaves us.

Really have no idea tbh.

As for positive or negative? I think we all have our different priorities and that won't change. I just hope we don't spend so long chasing the dragon while pissing away decent chances of some silverware.

Yes we will. And it won't be a damn league cup. The same one past glorious Spurs managers such as Juande Ramos have won

Regarding this season, we will not win the CL or the PL. So we have just the FA Cup to aim for. I cannot see us winning that either because Poch will put out an half arsed side for the quarter finals and fuck that up as well in the hope of reeling in a fifteen point gap on Citeh.

His deep down belief that we absolutely must prioritize the CL or PL is misleading the players, fans and Club in my opinion. Fergie started his reign at Yanited with an FA Cup win, he didn't as far as i recollect tell Martin Edwards and the Stretford End, "no fuck that, let's hit the big time this season in the European Cup or win the Division One title.

Fergie's Fourth Season after three trophy-less seasons:

1989-90: The breakthrough season. Signings of Paul Ince, Gary Pallister, Mike Phelan and Neil Webb are making no discernible difference to league form. Ferguson’s worst day comes in a 5-1 defeat to Manchester City and fan holds sign up saying, ‘3 YEARS OF EXCUSES AND IT’S STILL C**P - TA RA FERGIE’ after home defeat to Crystal Palace. But Mark Robins’ goal at Forest begins run in FA Cup that ends in Wembley glory.

LEAGUE: 13th. FA CUP: Winners. LEAGUE CUP: 3rd Round.

Poch needs to be more conservative with his ambitions, or at least play his cards closer to his chest, if not we will become the laughing stock of football.

Flame away.

Many fans and perhaps the club, Poch and Levy themselves seem to feel we've already skipped the part where you need to win the "lesser" trophies because we're now a glorious League winning, CL finalist level uber club. Consequently they don't give a feck about the domestic cups and are happy to pass up fairly easy chances at silverware.

Can't progress in the league cup - we're above that now!

Can't try and win the FA Cup - the players might get tired or games might clash with league and CL fixtures!

No, best to win nothing and compete for the two prizes that are by far the most difficult to win.

Can you blame many fans not caring about the cups when Poch doesn't seem to? Can you blame Poch not caring when so many fans dismiss the cups as an irrelevance?

I really wish we were the uber club some people think we are already but we're not. We need to win stuff. We need to win because we've won nothing for so long. We need to win because winning cups breeds a winning attitude and is what leads to winning leagues. We need to win cups because it's what all the best managers and clubs do when they start a sustained period of success. We need to win cups because our players will eventually leave if they never get any medals.

We need to win because if we don't win a trophy we lose our record of winning something for every one of the last six decades which only United can match. This is important.

To be honest it utterly blows my mind how dismissive so many people are of the cups - we've only won three that I remember in my lifetime, in 91, 99 and 2008. They are by far the greatest memories I have as a Spurs fan and no amount of second place finishes or one off good results will ever come close.

Still, who am I to place importance on winning things? I was told tonight by a fan that he wouldn't even celebrate winning the League Cup, that's how little he cared.

Like I said, blows my fucking mind, attitudes like that.

If Poch keeps publicly saying we don’t take these cups seriously then the players will keep playing like that and every year we’ll have all eggs in two baskets, one basket that’s virtually unwinnable. So all in on the league? Sorry I just don’t see how that makes sense to heap the pressure on like that.

That was an effective bye into the quarter finals last night, and we stuffed it up by literally not being able to deal with West Ham when they decided to start playing. It somehow managed to be a mish mash Team but also a team that gave lots of added minutes to people who have played recently like Son, Toby, Dier, etc.

As ever we seem to have thrown it but not really played the youngsters while doing so. I thought we had this big squad we needed to give time to? So why not do a complete switched team if we’re not arsed? At least then our regulars wouldn’t be tainted by such a branch in the spokes. Just completely knocks our momentum in the competitions that supposedly count.

Very disappointed and I’m not having this excitement at being in one less competition. Having never seen Spurs finish higher than 2nd or get beyond quarter finals of CL, I don’t understand the confidence in us winning something when we have a mentality that some cups aren’t for winning.

Look at the Carabao quarters: City, Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal... All the usuals who are trying to win everything. Clubs and managers that win things. A manager and a club who have won so little (in Poch’s case absolutely nothing) being so picky about what they win is just pure arrogance, I don’t know how people are seeing it otherwise

This is the crux of the matter.

Woolwhich for all of their trials and tribulations have won four trophies in three years, and yet we take the piss out of them? What would any Spurs fan give to have won half of them? Even one of them?

How can this young team learn to win a final if they haven't experienced a final, any final (or even made the final!). Like you have said being discerning over which silverware to opt into, or out of. is the choice of Champions and not an option for also-rans.

This morning we are still also-rans.

We’re becoming a laughing stock around this, the club that doesn’t want to win trophies. I find it indefensible, celebrating a draw in a competition we won’t win, then some strangely celebrating being knocked out of a competition we could. The whole “glad to be out” brigade just sound like “didn’t fancy her anyway”, it’s pathetic.

The league cup is the only cup we’ve won in the last 25 years, but we’re too good for it now. If it was another club, i’d be ripping the royal piss out of them. The hubris this week, this result was a clusterfuck waiting to happen

I'd like to know what Trophy we are going to win by giving this one the jerk off. No one seems to be able to say? It's like we are morphing into Woolwich by concentrating on the top four, the only difference is that they also won domestic trophies by doing so.

I get pretty angry at the muppets who dismiss anything other than PL and CL, take away the "smaller" cups and we don't have too much to boast about, they are part of our history, part of Tottenham Hotspur.

Blah blah blah. If we didn't fall to pieces for 20 minutes tonight we'd have won and everyone would be patting each other on the back.
Last sunday people were talking about winning the league now we'll never win a trophy?

Really shouldn't be suprised at how bipolar spurs fans can be. Some of us are real drama queens.

Will we win a trophy? I hope so, lets see at the end of the season.

You're probably right. However, the whole attitude thing regarding smaller (more winnable) cups is unfortunately also becoming a real thing.

We have to rest players at some point. We're playing two games a week. Would you rather we rested players against utd or real?
The team was good enough to win last night. But they didn't.
We also want to give other players a chance to prove themselves. You can't have it both ways.
We lost, we try to learn from our mistakes and move on.

Exactly - always the same over reaction after a loss in the Mouse Cup.

If we was not in CL or high up league I'm sure we would take it more seriously.
