A little off topic, but it's so cringeworthy how many belittle Arsenal and United due to us having a couple better seasons than them and looking "on the up".

They are both massive clubs who regularly win trophies.

He can’t make it any worse

That’s what they said about Mustafi.

This guy sounds like he fits the profile of players we should be targeting. We’d have 3 of the biggest defensive prospects in Europe with him, Foyth and Sanchez - though I’ve never seen him play and am basing purely on what I’ve been reading since Arsenal were linked

If it’s play time he’s after then we can just sign him with a loan back. Sign him now, see what happens with Toby and any replacement and if we’re stacked then send him back there or somewhere else for the season.

It's all part of the rich tapestry of life and football (y)

Arsenal sent a first offer of 30M € for William Saliba. Negotiations take place between Arsenal and Saint Etienne. Arsenal already agrees with the player. As revealed by the team, Arsenal must still be wary of Tottenham who has entered the file. #RMCsport

He followed up with a tweet saying Etienne are demanding he be loaned back for the 19/20 season. If Toby is staying that’s a great move.

If that's the case and St Etienne are demanding him back next season that would be even worse news for Arsenal who really do need someone in this season. If we keep Toby that's not as damaging to us so it might work in our favour if we are in for him.

My worry with Toby is that a club can come in at any time. For all we know we might end up with a squad with no weaknesses come 10.59 pm on deadline day until a desperate club comes in and matches his release clause. We have to be cautious.

Unless we get someone in, this for me is why we need to keep Dier around this summer despite his limitations.

Doesn't Toby's clause end in like 24-25 days? I think it expires soon so we'd have space and time to deal with such issues.

Dier staying is a must though agreed.

Not sure about those specifics, I just assumed it was from now until the end of his contract.

Even more than this, if it's true they have a very limited budget this year, can they afford to spend on someone who they can't use for a year? Unlikely. They won't do a deal if it requires a loan back, but I wouldn't be surprised if he goes to Arsenal and they don't loan back.

Emery needs to do what's best for him which is find solutions right now. If he has a poor season there he'll be facing the sack long before he even gets to see Saliba wear their shirt. Can't invest in the long term if you are unable to survive the short term etc.

The season long loan back is a no go from their side I believe.
