Manu Lonjon, close to St Étienne, reports that the Ligue 1 club expect Arsenal to hold discussions with them today about the possible transfer of 18-year-old central defender William Saliba.

Les Verts’ initial conditions for a deal are a €30m fee plus that the Frenchman is loaned back to ASSE for the entirety of the 2019/20 campaign.

L’Équipe claim although Arsenal remain William Saliba’s preferred destination, having agreed a provisional contract with the Gunners last week, North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur intend to activate talks to sign the French youth international too.

Spurs are in engaged in active discussions with the player’s entourage and are fairly confident that they too can agree personal terms with Saliba.

If they manage that, then they will have to agree a deal with St Étienne – Daniel Levy has already shown himself to be unafraid of making big bids for players this summer, having notably put more than €50m on the table to sign midfielder Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis.

AS Roma are also drifting in the background.

Was a member of the youth team at AS Bondy, alongside Kylian Mbappé, and coached by Mbappé's father.

Not that that means anything, just thought it was interesting.

Also only made his debut for ASSE in September 2018 and has started 16 games for them. Unsure why that would warrant a 30M fee.

This kid looks pretty damn good unfortunately. Have a feeling the deal to Arsenal is pretty much done and this is just the press creating a bit of drama, or St Etienne looking to string a bit of extra cash out of Arsenal.

I saw this tweet this morning and was surprised, first I'd heard of our interest:

Not sure on Bairner's reliability. Appears to write for Goal and focuses on French league.

He is literally quoting L'Equipe...

Here is the article from Lequipe's print edition. I don't speak French but what little help Google translate was it seems GFFN nailed the content.

Why would Arsenal be a players preferred choice in the current climate? They won't offer more money, a better area to live, better facilities or a better coaching team to work under.

If you're a professional, you choose the best place to further your career and at the moment we are a much better place to do that than Arsenal

He could possibly start at Arsenal pretty much straight away. If signing for us, he knows he’d be behind at least Sanchez and Vertonghen, with the Alderweireld situation still pretty unclear.

What we need to do is wait for him to show up at the Emirates for talks and then get Arsenal to pay for a taxi for him to come across to our gaff to seal a deal. Petit payback.:)

Lots of reports saying whoever he signs for he'll remain at St.Etienne for a year on loan. Could coincide with Toby or Jan leaving us.

I think there's probably a lot of french players his age who idolised Henry growing up. Some people laugh when you suggest that supporting Arsenal wouldn't affect who a player would sign for, but I don't think you can be certain of that.
