I suspect it's a very complicated situation.

Our resident Argentine poster said that Boca basically control most local press stories, and will want to give their fans the impression that there's a bidding war and they're doing everything they can to keep the player or secure the most possible money.

As we know with the Foyth deal, there was alleged PSG interest which ITKs have had a chuckle about.

My sense is that if Poch wants Barrios, he has a good chance of getting him, especially since WB would be joining his Colombian teammate Davinson, to help the "settling in to European football" process.
Either that or we are the PSG that enquired once and now are being wheeled out to the media. West Ham, Everton, Fulham...like Plea, we're getting down to the more likely destinations.

So that tweet claims Everton want him but will wait until December.

Earlier in this thread, there were suggestions that Boca would seek to renegotiate his contract so that the release clause kicked in at Xmas, after their Copa Libertadores campaign.

I don't think Poch would be prepared to wait that long, especially since the signing of Lucas Moura suggests that our winter break signings are likely to spend the first six months adapting to the PL and Poch's methods.

And our Summer ones the last 2 days of the summer window!

Think we need someone with a high football brain IQ in midfield rather than a workhorse.

Depends on Dier IMO. We need two players for the DM position so if Dier gets moved back to CB to effectively serve as Toby's replacement I could see us going in for Barrios.

If Toby does go I'd personally rather we drop Dier back and bring in Barrios for his ~21m release clause than splash out the 50-60m it would surely take to get Leicester to sell Maguire.

Yeah I see what you mean, but I personally don’t think that’s a great situation. We’ll end up with a worse CB, strengthen a direct rival and buy a midfielder who isn’t really what we need in order to improve.

Today’s football is about midfield dominance unless you want to bypass the midfield like Liverpool and hit diagonals to your front three. The intelligence comes from the false positions off the main striker. If you can get a midfielder who’s tenacious and good on the ball ie Modric Dembele like you’ve really cracked it. Barrios imo would be a good buy to help keep our intensity in midfield, we are good enough with creativity if Lamela can stay fit and also Moura stepping up.

from watching him in the WC I'd say he is good at winning the ball but then quite likely to give it away again. Everyone wants to believe Lamela can be more productive in the final third, and Moura can live up to the hype but the jury's out on both. Kovacic is both tenacious and can use the ball. We are not creative enough against the bus parkers.

Except it’s doubtful either of them will start if everyone is fit.

We need creativity in the middle of the park imo if we are to improve this season.

I would be happy with a player in the middle that can move the ball quickly forward.
