Exactly. And rated Paulinho more specifically. Who now, let's all remember, played in El Clasico for Barcelona this past season. Not exactly a downgrade. Paulinho wasn't good for us, but I maintain that he was, and is, a bit of an anomaly as a player that came to us at the wrong time (I wrote about it more here.)

Not to mention, other than Bale, our other players weren't exactly flourishing under AVB. Was Tim right about Paulinho? Not at all, and he would be the first to admit it. A humble sports writer is hard to come by these days and that's just one of the many reasons I'm writing this ridiculous defensive love letter to die on the hill that is Tim Vickery.
Paulinho isn't very good for Barcelona either. That was an absolutely horrible transfer for that much money.

34 appearances and 9 goals in La Liga this season, much more than decent for their box to box midfielder.

I mean, I've watched quite a few Barcelona games and have followed along with that because of his history at Spurs. He hasn't been good and scored a bunch of tap ins. Barca fans aren't thrilled with what they paid to get an average player that isn't up to Barcelona midfielder standards.

going to ping my mate who is a Boca season ticket holder and the best technical non-professional player I know.

I guess we are seeing different things, I think he has brought something to Barca since his signings and tap ins or 30 yard screamers, you have to be there to score them.

Wow - he is 24? Was expecting someone younger.

Seems like this would mean Wanyama will be sold. Shame. I am going to have spaghetti in his honor tomorrow.

We can agree to disagree! Sucks as I was probably most excited about his signing that summer. He was so damn good in that Confederations Cup before we bought him.

Looks like Serge Aurier at CM to me like someone said earlier. Just not the type of player I think we need.

Additionally, I don't think we should take much stock in how other teams feel about their players being sold. I'm sure Swansea was devastated when we bought Llorente, AZ with Jansenn, etc. We're in a position where were going to be buying lower teams top players, doesn't always mean they're going to be a success. Kind of like well if Poch wants him so do I.

Could be a signal that we are moving Dier to CB - i.e. Toby is gone, and we either can't get de Ligt over the line, or we have to loan him back for a year.

Wouldn't love it but I don't hate the idea of loaning de Ligt back for the year either.. I like Dier at DM, I know most people think thats crazy but I think is more than good enough for that spot. I also want him to just be settled in one spot so he can grow and develop there and that seems to be what we've done at DM.

Hope this doesn't mean anything negative about Wanyama. We haven't seen the proper Victor for quite a while now, but for me he's the best DM on our books by a distance when he's 100%.

can't remember who but i thought we had itks that we want to sign 2 cms, 1 more expensive plus a cheaper one, so probably this would be the cheaper one?

Sounds like a player with the physical attributes but better technical ability than Wanyama. I could see that as a possible reason to replace him. As good as Wanyama is at breaking up play his ability on the ball is not the best. Poch puts a lot of emphasis on keeping the ball. We saw how much Wanyama struggles when he plays alongside someone like Sissoko and it's looking like we wont have Dembele around next season. He also doesn't work so well alongside Dier so we really have limited combinations with Wanyama in midfield.

To be fair I haven't seen anyone been able to handle playing with Sissoko at Spurs. For France it seems like everyone knows how to play with him and he is actually good

We need 2 in every position. Gives Barrios time to settle
