He is exactly the sort of player we need.

No nonsense tough unbelievable stamina his passing was spot on for Colombia he won a lot of ball moved the ball quickly and forward I thought, Barrios Sanchez Mina for Colombia were warriors.

Yes he was aggressive he never play acted or dived just tough yes he was lucky to stay on the field with that Henderson incident

Little rash in challenges but very determined to winthe ball back , reminds me of scott parker, great engine too.

That was the comparison I was thinking too. In that game Barrios was obviously under orders to "rough up" the England players, as were all of the Colombians it seems. That is a team orders decision and the blame should be laid at the feet of the coach.

He was phenomenal against Poland. In that game, Colombia came out to play and they were excellent. Last night they were there to stifle and survive and excellent, energetic and skillful England side. Colombia kept going though. Pushed us all the way, even though they only "played" for about 20 mins.

Passion is not only an English thing, they were playing for their country too (and football players in Colombia can have a bit more to worry about for poor play than nasty headlines https://www.independent.co.uk/news/colombias-own-goal-star-shot-dead-1418013.html
).

Not totally sold on him yet, although if he has been scouted and assessed and fits the bill then I am willing to give him a chance and not get affronted by tabloidy sentiment.

Like him but is he really what we need given we already have Wanyama? Not sure.

He is one of those players we lacked years ago but seems to be in the same mould as Dier....... yes we have wanyama but have been talks of him maybe leaving and also will depend if he has fully recovered from his injury still

Looks like he's made for the premier league, he's more mobile than anything we have in the position, looks like a more aggressive Kante. & I think he looks good on the ball as well, good feet.

Whether you want(ed) him or not, you can see facets of his game that had our scouting team watching him.

The Duracell bunny comes to mind when watching him.

I'm not sure that we need him, but I understand why we have looked.

He was lucky not to get a red (but Henderson's reaction was just as poor to be honest) but afterwards got on with the game and looked surprisingly decent. But it's just one game so who knows? Poch will, I hope.

I'd rather see Onomah given the chance to step up than spend 20m(?) on Barrios.
Not sure they could be further apart. One is laid back but with some great skills. The other is a wrecking ball on steroids.

Watching the game tonight and seen what Barios has done to henderson, I don't want him at our club.
I thought he showed great potential last night, don't care what he did to Henderson. Looks to have great fight for the cause, but needs to tidy up his distribution but could be a top player with the right coaching.

We've already got Vic and Dier who are great at breaking stuff up and we need more of an Onomah type who can pick out the passes and get us moving forwards. That was really my point.

Just to play Devil's Advocate:
- Vic was either injured or pretty average last year
- I don't believe Dier is a midfielder, long term

I think have concerns on this guy, but I don't think we should totally disregard the notion of a new DM if we can find the right one
