Praying hands! Praying hands! Please No! Please answer my prayers. Amen
I find it curious that neither of our two most active ITKs see any value in this transfer and yet it continues to pop up over and over again (granted it is mainly popping up in non-UK media who probably love the extra attention a Spurs transfer rumor boasts). This thread is somewhat cursed it seems to have the same debate every 2 pages. RIP to those who made a pledge to drink everytime someone mentioned "beast" in this thread.

I'm not saying there is no interest, I'm saying I don't personally want another DM when we have greater needs elsewhere.

Agreed. I am not implying either of you have said we have no interest. I am saying both you and Herc both see no value in us pursuing what interest there is. Sorry if that got mixed up in the phrasing.

Yes, but the situation is very fluid.

Let's say hypothetically that Toby goes to manure, and Raiola has priced de Ligt out of the market.

Poch may decide our CBs for next season are Jan, Davinson and Dier as first choice, with Foyth and CCV behind them.

If we're primarily playing a 2 CB system, rather than a 3 CB system, Poch might consider that's enough, and instead prioritise a hunter gatherer in Barrios to rotate with Wanyama.

I’m pissed. Poch likes him. That is what I was told not so long ago. I hate this farking crap. Told we weren’t following up, and now this. Hope I am wrong, and jumping the gun.

It wasn't fluid last Summer when Dier was making quiet murmurs about maybe leaving if he was going to be played at CB because he saw his future as a DM. Perhaps his missing out on Englands first XI might have changed his mind a bit, but he was not crazy about the idea of playing there full time.

Agree.

But, without turning this into a "what is Eric Dier's best position?" thread, he now isn't starting as England's DM and manure aren't in the market for a DM having bought Matic and Fred. So, if Poch sez "Eric, you're a CB this season", then he will probably accept and adapt his game.

And that would change the balance of our squad.

I'm half wondering whether it's a move Alder on now and get barrios for cheap and move Dier cb whilst agreeing with Ajax to sign De Light but let him stay there one year and then if Dier is unhappy then sell him for a large fee next year to keep the money spinning.

He's really grown on me the more I think of it. Hope we get him.

I'm also swaying your way...indeed, he's a nasty ball breaking bar steward, but if we sign him he'll be our nasty ball breaking bar steward.

Henderson has really surprised me as the anchor so far, as I thought Dier was much better suited to the role. Rightfully keeping Dier out (albeit with plenty more defensive help from Dele and Lingard than I expected).

He's probably got just as much hope of taking Walker's place going forward than Henderson's, especially through the qualification phases against weaker opposition.

Plus we have the Wanyama injury situation as potential concern.

Personally think Barrios could be a shrewd signing, but I still want that creative CM. Maybe the answer will be Winks and the likes of Dele, Eriksen and Grealish being used deeper. I can live with that if we get a top attacker in like a Martial or Zaha.

Imagine going into summer saying it will be different, expecting de Ligt, Martial or Pulisic and ending up w/ Plea, Barrios and Grealish (I actually like him though)

No wonder Levy loves Poch if he's picking players with < £15m release clauses rather than pushing for the likes of Kovacic, Ndombele and Nzonzi that have been linked for 2-3 times that amount!

If we buy Barrios it can't mean thats our only new CM, if that's the case we are in deep shit because wee need someone creative as well.

Agreed. Might be an unpopular opinion but I think Barrios is slightly better than Dier in the DM position. Some people said he was a headless chicken but he impressed me in the WC games (apart from the headbutt obviously).

That said I’m hoping we buy an additional CM - a proper replacement for Dembele should he go. That’s more important.

Everything is leading to this one happening by the reports, and I can personally see it happening.
Not exactly my cup of tea either but if Poch wants him that's good enough for me.
I'm my opinion both Dier and Wanyama can be a bit hit and miss so I think a bit of competition for them both in the starting 11 would be healthy.

to me he seems more of a box to box midfielder than defensive, he has been all over the field, he certainly has the engine for it, but needs to wind his neck in a bit.

If we do sign him, I like the sound of a highly mobile, aggressive DM. If he's 80% of the player Kante is he'll be a starter in no time! He certainly would be an alternative to the more powerhouse DMs we have.

I agree it's far from a priority move though.

He reminds me of Kante on his performances in the World Cup and if he was purchased it would allow Dier to play centre half and would give us Wanyama Winks Barios as defensive midfielders wow. just wow
