0930: A bet placed seven years ago by a William Hill punter who has since died is set to boost Oxfam's funds by over £100,000 - if Roger Federer wins Wimbledon for a record breaking seventh time.
Nicholas Newlife from Kidlington in Oxfordshire staked £1,520 with Hills at odds of 66/1 for Federer to win seven Wimbledons before the year 2020, in August 2003.
The Swiss star has so far won six Wimbledon singles titles, and a seventh in the next couple of weeks will see the bet produce a payout of £101,840.
Sadly, however, Mr Newlife passed away in February, 2009 - leaving his entire estate to the charity, Oxfam.
Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe said: "Mr Newlife made arrangements in his will to pass any profit from his bet on to his favoured charity, Oxfam - a unique eventuality in our experience - and we will, of course, be handing the profts from his far-sighted wager to them just as soon as Federer holds the trophy aloft for a seventh time.
"In the event that he fails to win this year - and he is 6/4 favourite to do so - the bet does not run out until 2019."
I don't care if this should be in Sport and Gambling, I hate that forum, it's just full of stickies.
Great match going on at the moment, Federer just pulled it back to 2-1 against Falla. Great game, some awesome shots being played.
About as much as I hate the transfer rumours forum, it's full of made up rubbish that never comes to fruition.
We have to sticky stuff so people can see the latest books. And i moved this thread to other sports btw.
I didn't know "Other Sports" existed until yesterday, as I only use the 'Forums Jump' button at the top of the page which bears no link to it. Sorry for causing offence haxman.
