Thought I'd start a thread on this as I always enjoy it and think it should be a good tournament. Hoping this can be murrays year but still going to be at the very top of his game IMO with djokovic as good as always and nadal looking back to near his best. Not too fussed with the women's to be honest, hope Robson does well but tough draw for her.

What does everyone else think- who do you think will win etc.

I am no tennis expert. But be a major shock if Henman Murray won... wish the British press would not build him up. Likewise for Robson and the other British woman !?

It depends on whether Murray is properly healed up after his recent back injury. If there's even a hint that he's not at 100% then he won't win it.

I reckon Nadal or Djokovic, and if I was forced to choose between them I think Nadal will win it.

As for the women's tournament, Serena will win it if she turns up as is always the case.

Don't think it would be a major shock to be fair. He has already won one grand slam and been in 5 other finals and is in a completely different class to anything henman was capable of. He is world number 2 in the rankings, although nadal could well be threatening that again soon. As TSH said if he is 100% fit then he should be in the mix at the end as he was a bit unlucky to lose against federer last year and since then he has won the us open so has had a bit of a confidence boost in regards to actually winning a major.

Agree on the women and in particular Robson, still too early for her but it would be nice for her to win a few and carry on progressing her game but I think it is a big ask with the draw.

I was a big fan of Murray a couple of years ago, but since I have started to play a bit in the last year I am not sure I like watching that much. Much prefer watching Federrer for his class and Nadal for his strength and Ferrer for his balls and JJ . Murray just seems a bit static but as I said I am a newbie and maybe I am missing something and should look for the positives in his game.

Federer is an absolute joy to watch at his best, the shots he can pull off when anyone else would be done for are just ridiculously good and nadal is the same like you said just for the power and mental strength he shows. I enjoy most of the games between the top 4 as they usually turn into 4 or 5 set battles and I enjoy watching any sports played at their best, but yes if you take away the patriotic bias I would agree that Murray would be the least entertaining to watch out of the top 4.

Nadal's back this year, so doubtful of Murray's chances of even being in the final. Personally reckon it'll be between Federer/Nadal/Djokovic. Murray will reach semis though, unless there is a major shock.

Not a big tennis fan, so you know what I hate? These dirtbags who don't watch a minute of tennis all year round (not even Queens) and then suddenly start creaming their jeans when Wimbledon starts. Bandwagon much?

the above is the most moronic statement on the thread so far. (y)

why hate at all? It's like saying you dislike people that get swept up in the joy / excitement of the World Cup, or (blurgh) a Royal Wedding... What harm does it do you? None. Does the statement make you sound like a moany dick? Yep.

I don't care for tennis very much, but will watch the final and appreciate both the efforts of the athletes and the emotions of those who do like it.

i blame the press.... tennis is a serious sport ... but not taken serious enough by press, councils or tv scheduling ... unless our fellow or lass is in with a shout... its wimbledon fortnight so over to the henman hill, pimms and strawberries ... ya ya ya .. The more you put in the more you get out. ... Although BBC done well to get Becker and McEnroe.. that must cost them a pretty penny

How many minutes of tennis do I have to have watched in the last 12 months to allow me to get excited about Wimbledon?

I only ask because it will also be very helpful with regards to the upcoming Ashes series, Tour de France and British Grand Prix.

Nice point- I do actually watch a lot of tennis but I don't watch any cricket at all apart from the ashes so I only watch that every 2 years but not sure if I'm allowed now :(

I love tennis and will watch when I can. Thing is with Wimbledon, I find it's one of the better atmospheres around. Just listen to the reactions for the big stars (Federer, Nadal, Djokovic). I love tennis fans, because they respect all the players and there is barely any booing. Friendly surroundings, and I plan to go to it one day.

Nadal one game away from going 2 sets down. Incredible. Murray broken serve already, lovely stuff.

Damn you Nadal, I wanted him to lose that second set so I'd get better odds on him to win in 5....

Edit : and he has!

Nadal is still only 4/9. Not worth it at all.

Anyone know why the BBC red button coverage is so shit this year? Usually you can watch 4 or 5 courts.
