He could of course turn out to be amazing, but his CV does not suggest that he is the commanding, experienced centre half that we need to sort out our shambolic defence. He strikes me as more a Comolli signing rather than a Harry signing if you see what I mean - bags of potential no doubt, but not addressing our immediate shortcomings.

I'm not so sure your evaluation of him is correct, young Eddie. If you read (or you may have already read?) the comments from FC Koln supporters, in his player thread, he seems to be very much someone who has been responsible for the rather impressive defensive record that FC Koln managed throughout this season. Those supporters are far from happy to have lost what some of them have described as the best defender they've seen donning the shirt of the team they support.

He can't be too shabby, or just be 'potential' if such things are being said about him?

I agree if you want to bring though young players having a rock solid defence is a massive plus and ours is less than water tight we would have been better to sign an established cb who can defend esp in a high line, unless we have hopes Fazio will turn up next year.

Yep, sounds sensible. My knowledge of 'high line' and experienced cbs is only marginally better than my understanding of the rules of croquet... do you have any names?

I've found the opinions from supporters of FC Koln, which were kindly whored by @Timberwolf in the Wimmer transfer thread.....

Did a bit of whoring over at a Koln forum, courtesy of Google Translate. Very positive stuff, indeed:

Super footballer and class type. A real flagship professional.
Too bad we can not keep people like you. I hope your attitude remains a lot to our team. Bye, mach et jut, Kevin Wimmer.

The farewell is painful. And I also think of parting is still pain for some time. To find a center-back, who has the potential to bring similar performance at a similarly constant level, is extremely difficult.
I wish him all the best in England. Should calm carry on as here. For me it was always a very likeable player. Hope he will remember back also some time at Cologne.

What I had prejudices against him.
failure Shopping, screw etc. were some remarks. Dear Kevin Wimmer, I'm sorry, I have a little abgelästert, and thank goodness you have shown and proved to me that one of its judgments not so should be hasty. did you become the absolute tower in our defense, for me together with Matze positive surprise. It is a pity that you are going, it is not easy to find a worthy successor, but understand your step you develop athletic to want to aim higher, with the FC is not yet possible to that. I wish you every success at Spurs. We fans will all keep you in good memory, as you the FC, the city of Cologne, and above all the Fans will hopefully not forgotten, and maybe you'll one day return to FC when playing internationally again. Take care!

Since he came into the team in Cottbus, he was here to stay.
One of the best defenders I've seen in FC jersey.
A type that you simply may need.

Now that it is fixed and officially, again hurts a bit. Model type that will leave a big gap. Judging also the interview on FC TV after, he seems to be a funny bird. On Facebook he posted a picture of times with a T-shirt "Dine, Wine, Sixetynine". Will miss him!

See my point? One of them has even said he was totally wrong, and went on to become an absolute tower in defence. As much as I want us to not sign a dud, so perhaps I'm failing to acknowledge potential shortfalls in this signing, we surely can't ignore such strong opinions from supporters of his previous club?

I just want to say it .... "High Line" is a fad... a FAD!

Not that it is not a strategy, but both it's pervasive actual use as well as the use of the tem to describe any team that is known to take aggressive defensive stances... is a FAD.

Jai Alai has pedigree, but high line? eh.

Failure shopping screw sounds interesting too!

Now that Wimmer is done and announced, I'm eagerly waiting for our next signing.

He will probably replace Kaboul, that would leave us with Fazio and Verts as our 2 experienced defenders. I would doubt Fazio will be replaced seeing as he just came to the club, Verts hasn't made any noises about leaving yet. Poch will have to work wonders to get that defence organised during Preseason.

Lol no idea, I just know it's so spurs to sigh a defender who can't. I really hope we sort our defence this transfer window, we really need to cut out the individual silly mistakes we let teams back in games when they realise that we love giving free chances away.

every now and again i do some commentating on 2nd division German football for bwin and in the 2013/14 season i did Cologne a lot.

he was the best defender on the pitch from the very first game i saw him. basically he's a slightly slower but much stronger Vertonghen. though i'm not expecting too much to begin with, i'm thrilled that he's signed for us.

he and Dier could easily become our CB partnership for the next 5-10 years - i think they'd complement each other perfectly.

I think you are bang on here. Wimmer LCB and Dier RCB must be the backup plan for next season and the plan for future defence?

I know what you mean, it's been shambolic but imo we just aren't doing any of the basics right to start with so it should take about 20min to improve things.
Sit them down and say, ffs lads watch these videos of us defending.
Stop ball watching.
Stop getting drawn into the 6yd box and ignoring every opp player who doesn't have the fkin ball.
And stop trying to play tippy tappy possession football in and around the edge of our own goal area.
There are times when just clearing the ball is the safest bet.
Lloris, please stop throwing the ball out to one of the back four when he has 2 opp players up his arse and is facing you, leaving him with no option but to kick it straight back at you.
You can see everything in front of you so if there's someone on the far side of the pitch unmarked, make the defence aware.
Simplez ;)
Just saved us 20 goals a season lol.

Welcome aboard the mighty Spurs, young Kevin. You are joining what will soon be the most exciting and exhilarating club in the PL.

While I admire your optimism it is not founded on reality. Next you'll be saying you dream. If so, wrong club. I worry about your mental health. Do you talk to yourself too?
