Spurs winger Wayne Routledge is set to be recalled from his loan spell at Fulham by the north London club.

It is not clear however if Routledge remains in Spurs boss Martin Jol's plans as cover for injury troubled flyer Aaron Lennon or whether he is being recalled because of interest from elsewhere during the January transfer window.

Routledge has been a regular starter for Fulham in recent weeks and the west London club could be tempted into making Spurs a permanent offer to avoid having to lose the player.

Some reports this morning are suggesting it would take a bid of around £4 million to convince Spurs to sell Routledge, however he was only signed for around £2 million from Crystal Palace so that figure may be higher than reality.

I don't see the point in getting him back and selling him. Get him back, give him a chance, and if he doesn't cut it sell him in the summer.
  2. al_pacino
Im sure I remember seeing Chris Coleman saying Spurs had given permission for Routledge to play in The Cup, that says to me that we aren't rushing to get him back.

Get him back and bloody play the guy for 6 games in a row at least - if he is shit in all 6 games then start your negative outlook on him
  4. Stavi
i like him. how long is his contract and did he renew it in the summer?
  5. Captain Spur
Would like to see him get a chance in a Spurs shirt. He looked very promising for Palace.

If it doesn't work out after he has had a fair bash then bang him out somewhere. I'm sure we would get more than we paid aswell. I think the fee was sorted out by tribunal if memory serves me right.

i really am confused as why spurs treat him this way:bang: . by all accounts he had a good preseason, and i was looking forward to him getting his chance. Then out of the blue he's off to fulham. I understood the reasons behind him going to fulham was so that we could get steed. But with lennon struggling with injuries and the team lacking pace, surely it's time to bring him back and give him a real chance, until the end of the season. We can just as easily sell him in the summer.

I agree, reckon Jol should give him a chance, he's been starting really well at Fulham, lets see what he can do.

We certainly missed a right winger when Lennon was crocked the first time. Lennon is suffering from recurrent swelling of the knee and he will almost certainly have to miss a few games here and there as we go through the next few months so we need someone to provide cover. Bring him back and give him a run out.

I really like Routledge and would welcome him back especially as we have no news of Lennon atm, he was great in the peace cup for us ans showed so much promise then he got injured and along came Lennon.

    Bring back Routy!

We should bring him back and use him as cover for young Lennon ! Having seen him a few times at Fulham, he does not seem like the same player he was at Palace ! But the lad has got pace ! Come back Wayne !
  11. StokeSpur
Well our stand in right winger Ghaly will be out for a bit now i imagine so we'll need Wayne down that side till Lennons back for sure, i personally thought it was madness letting him go to Fulham anyway but it had to be done to get Marbranque here.

Can't believe the rubbish that has been posted about Routledge. I have never rated him and when ever have seen him at Palace and in preseason. A winger that can't beat his man and can't distribute the ball is good to no one.

Lets just sell him whilst he he still has some reasonable value.

I'd like him back at the club he showed such promise before getting injured against Pompey.
We wouldn't have won the Peace cup without him and don't we have to defend it this season??
  14. GlennHoddle
Whats de big fuss about Routledge. He hasn't set the Prem alight at Fulham this year has he. Was it Pompey he was with last year as well. Never did anything special there either. We have been waiting 2/3 years for a decent left winger so go out and get a LEFT FOOTED LEFT WINGER. We have been waiting long enough. Routledge/Lennon are the not the answer to the left sided problem. Obviously Jol sees more in day to day training than the rest of us and doesn't fancy Routledge. If he did he'd give him a chance. Jol's decision has been backed up by Routeldges performances whilst out on loan. Wayne also seems a bit big headed and lets his mouth do more talking than his football most of the time.
  15. Crabby
Well done Ricardomcd and Glennhoddle...makes me laugh when someone writes something and then all and sundry jump on the bandwagon, what has he done at fulham, not a lot, pompey, even less. Cheerio and we should get what we paid for, we can't afford to play him 6 times to see is he's good enough as we could well slip down the table as a result..
  16. Hugo
I agree with both arguments, from what I have seen of him he has not been brilliant. His biggest failing is his final ball, he gets into great positions and then fails to deliver. Ricardomcd, Glennhoddle and Crabby are all right he has done nothing on loan. I think part of his problem is that he is a lad who wants to feel important and what has happened has really dented his confidence

However the guy is young and also he has the one thing we lack in cover on the bench and that is pace. Everyone that comes off the bench to cover the either wing really lacks pace.
  17. ultimateloner
If he's not going to improve our results significantly don't recall him. Sell him when the right offers come in.

Is Routledge any better than what we have? Is he going to displace Ghaly or whoever occupies the right flank? Probably not.

The 'give him 6 games and see how he does' is total rubbish. The coaches and managers of both sides see the player everyday so they already know what he could and couldn't do. A player who doesn't show his class in training would never do well on the pitch.

We need Rotledge back - and have been mising him all season. With knee surgery like Lennon's you do get swelling after hard games, and Lennon has missed quite a few of the 30 games we have played so far. Routledge should have filled in whenever necessary, but was at Fulham and I'm sure we would have been better off with than without him.
Now, get him back immediately while he has played a bit recently and has some match fitness.
He has not set the premiership alight at Pompey last term or Fulham this term, partly because he has been struggling physically and partly because lightfooted wingers don't do well in sides that don't control games.´
I'm not saying he is a born star already, but he definitely looked a very hot prospect last year and already has plenty of premiership experience. If I had my way he would feature against Cardiff and fill in for Lennon when needed in the hopefully many fixtures left of this season.
Selling him would be foolish without giving him a chance first.

Jol , Arneson and Commoli should be held accountable for buying players which they never play .

It's not good enough for those players careers and it sends out an awful message to young players we are trying to attract .
