Clearly Winks is the future and Dembele the past and only temporarily the present.
In the interim when fit both could start or either.
Horses for courses.
When Wanyama is back shuffle the pack again.

The problem is the "when both fit" thing, because is Dembele ever going to actually be fit?

I'm a big fan of Winks. I think his future potential is extreme. He is fearless (as he showed vs. Madrid). However, I actually don't think he has been playing THAT well for a few weeks, and I wouldn't start him over a super-fit Dembele just yet.

At the moment if both are fit then they should both start.

When Wanyama gets back though it’s a different matter.

While Wanyama is out they should definitely be starting together. At this stage in their careers Dembele is the better player when fully fit, but how often is that? If Winks keeps progressing the way he has been at some point he'll overtake Moussa even in his pomp.

Ultimately though, the answer is probably both, but also depends on the game.

Because if you also add in a fully fit Wanyama, Alderweireld, etc. then we have some serious decisions to make.

In a 352 both should start. Dembele for his physicality and ability to keep hold of the ball and Winks for his tenacity, passing and progressive play. They’re a good foil for each other. However, with Dembele being a perma-crock, I’d go 433 and play Dier, Winks and Eriksen in a 3 - holding, passer, creative. With Alli and Son floating and Kane up top.

Dembele seems like China at the end of the season to me. He has vocally stated he cannot take the intensity of training Poch demands, so unless there is a shift in philosophy to accommodate players who have previous characteristics like Mousa, he's toast seasons end IMO.

Winks for me by a distance, but if fully fit, both.

Both have their qualities but one quality this Spurs team lacks is quick moving of the ball, 1 touch passing and passing and moving.

Winks provides more of those so for that reason in a straight shoot between the two i would choose Winks.

I love Dembele but he hasn't been 'fit' for years. Winks and Wanyama should be our default midfield pairing imo.

Frustrating isn’t it? He was absolutely superb against Chelsea at the beginning of the season, but then just seems to take a step back.

He did make a noticeable difference to the team when he came on Saturday but we can’t rely on him and we definitely need to go into the market for another CM imo.

Agree about Winks and Wanyama potentially making a very good partnership in CM.

Yet the last two years have been he’s best by a mile.

75% fit Dembele is better than anything else we currently have.

Right now I’d go with a Winks Dembele combo then once Waynama back they can rotate with each other

Playing both means we are weak defensively in the middle of the pitch.

Winks for me. Dembele hasn't looked like his old self since March
