So the possibility of a break is rearing it’s head again.

I’m not sure how I feel about this. I’m pretty sure the bug clubs would just book friendlies in America and The Far East so it wouldn’t actually be a break. The idea in principle is good though, but then I think it would need to be coupled with dropping two clubs from the Prem and having an 18 Team League.

I think it'd be better just to reduce the number of games played over this period, rather than stop playing for an entire month/two months

Just have a break over Christmas and New Year. 2 weeks is all you need. Will stop arguments over having to see family v home to Southampton on boxing day...

Argument? There's no argument, I'm at the Southampton home game on Boxing Day!

It's well overdue, need to keep the festive fixtures of course and then have a 2 week break after the 3rd round of FA Cup 1st weekend in January.

Christmas break is long enough without having no football to watch

So some want to take a winter break ;lets just say for a month involving lets say six games it would mean playing those six games in a smaller timetable .If those in management say that there players are tired ;well I believe that is a crock of poo.where is it written that you have to play the same eleven in every match you have a squad use it.No it is mostly the top 5 or six clubs managers incidentally all foreign who want this break. Our club have given half the squad a break of some kind all be it thru injury. The answer is to use these large squads and rotate and not to be like guardiola;maureen;wenger;klopp;conte and expect to be able to play your first choice eleven every week and I excuse poch because I have never heard him use the timetable as an excuse. For me and my family the xmas time when the whingers want to take a break is normally the time when most games are sold out and we love to be at these matches.

Fuck no, Xmas=Football as far as I'm concerned.

If they want a break then get the Xmas fixtures out of the way, then 2 weeks off after the new year, then play the 3rd round of the FACup on a Wednesday night.

Also why are people presuming it'll be for a month?, most European leagues just stop for two weeks.

Love my Xmas football, would be gutted if they took that period as the break.

Couple of weeks in January I suppose could work but then it will all be buggered if there’s a bad cold snap in February or something

We always seem to be in really good form over Christmas, our fitness levels seem to peak compared to everyone else so fuck no.

I think they need to reduce the number of teams in the PL to 18 before they try for a winter break. Fixture congestion will be much worse if they don't

Nice idea but never gonna happen because fewer games = less money.

Not really. Matches on tv will probably be the same just less 15:00 saturday games. Meaning the tv pot would be split between 18 rather than 20 making up for lost gate revenue.
It wont happen because 2/3 of prem chairmen would have to vote for it. Which as you've seen this year wont happen because half the league are scared of being relegated, they are not going to vote to make it more likely.

If anything it would be the league cup with prem teams putting in u21 sides or something.

Not for me.

All the clubs will do is bugger off to Dubai and play other teams there in friendlies to make a bit of cash. It will be pointless.

We’ve done quite well over Xmas lately, and managers like Klopp can’t deal with it and their teams burn out, so I say keep it!

It wouldn't be for a month, it would probably be for two weeks so rearranging two matches. And it will be mid-January, not over Christmas. And it's not just the foreign coaches calling for it, Big Sam wants it, David Moyes wants it, Hodgson wants it, Fergie wanted one.

If they do introduce it they have to implement a rule saying that clubs aren't allowed to use first team squad players in friendlies during the break.

I was thinking that as well, but would benefit earlier in the season if we changed our training methods?
