This might be the wrong thread, but what the heck . . . .

To compare the MLS to England, just look at some former Spurs players :

DeAndre Yedlin. Was an MLS allstar. Not up to Spurs level. Moved to NUFC when they were in Champ. league
Simon Dawkins. Loaned to MLS and played 2 years. Returned to play at Derby
Anton Walkes. Loaned to MLS and started games. Returned to play at Portsmouth

I'd put MLS on level with a Mid-level Championship team, but with some aging EPL stars and developing good So. and No Amer players.

I guess realistically buying players in January will be mostly players whose contracts are winding down or players like Moura who are surplus to requirements.

If we buy in January it won’t be for the benefit of this season anyway.

No but it will be for the benefit of Levy’s purse strings.

I must start watching MLS again as the last time I watched it regularly was when penalties where taken from the half-way line and you had to run towards goal. Is the standard really that bad? If you where to make a comparison would it be similar to The Championship, League One, League Two, The Conference, Scottish Premier League or Irish League?

I’d say the overall standard of the league is closer to league two than the championship.

Look at the earnings. The average championship player will earn way more than almost all of the players in the MLS. Why would they earn £50k a year in the MLS when they could earn £15k a week in the Championship if they were good enough?

Watching De Jong now against France and I have to say he looks like a Spurs player. As Ajax are in Champs league at worst Europa after Christmas, I can't see us getting him until the summer, but looking at him he is perfect for us.

According Mundo Deportivo we also had a bid rejected for him along with Barca. I would be shocked if we are not interested but imagine it will cost at least Sanchez money to get him.

Yeah because he's from my home town and i played with his brothers. haha

I think he could do a job in a few of the decent European leagues.

You from Bunbury ? crazily small world, Oh i believe if he had a half decent coach bringing him through the ranks instead of bloody Kenny Lowe he could have really kicked on

Apparently (according to various rags) our offer is 45 mill, Barcelona offering much less.

Player prefers Barca at this stage

Sounds just like the Sanchez scenario

I feel it might come down to this. He looks an incredible talent and it seems Barca also believe this. I can see him holding of on a move until Barca pay what is needed. Considering Ajax have started to pay bigger fees I can see them holding out for 50 odd mil for him. As much as I want to tell myself he will come to us, I don't think he will.

There’ll be a big tug of war for him.

On the pre-contract tip I hope we are considering Herrera.

If not then we should wholeheartedly go for Frenkie De Jong, who will probably become significantly better than both. In fact I think he should be our main summer target, though we should look to secure him in January. Natural successor to Dembele and could even provide a Vertonghen-esque calmness in the centre of defence - though perhaps a few years down the line.

Would love us to look at Leon Bailey or Hirving Lozano too.

Do deal now with Ajax for De Light and De Jong and let them come in summer much like Liverpool with Keite

Lozano and De Jong would be excellent signings
