Tottenham monitor Leicester left-back Ben Chilwell with Ajax midfielder Frenkie De Jong also on radar

Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on left-back Ben Chilwell, who was handed his first England senior call-up on Sunday, and are lining up a January bid for Ajax midfielder Frenkie De Jong.

Chilwell is part of England manager Gareth Southgate’s squad for Tuesday night’s friendly against Switzerland after being promoted from the Under-21s.

He has played in all four of Leicester City’s Premier League games this season and has been on the radar of top clubs for a number of years.

Arsenal and Liverpool both had bids for Chilwell rejected before he had even made his first-team debut for Leicester against Spurs in January 2016.

Tottenham are now tracking the progress of Chilwell, although any potential bid for the player is likely to wait until next summer when he will have two years left on his Leicester contract.

Danny Rose is set to start ahead of Chilwell against Switzerland at the King Power Stadium, but the 28-year-old’s long-term Spurs future remains unclear.

Tottenham also have Wales international Ben Davies, but they are preparing to try to strengthen their left side and have also been watching Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon for some time.

Having missed out on Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish and not signed a single player this summer, Spurs could make a January offer for 21-year De Jong in the January transfer window.

De Jong played the second half of Holland’s victory over Peru last Thursday and is rated as one of the best prospects in Dutch football.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino remains keen to strengthen his midfield options if Tottenham can find the right player, particularly with Mousa Dembele now in the final 12 months of his contract.

Lol as if we could prise a player out of Leicester if they wanted to keep him, City struggled to get mahrez and they are prepared to pay market value

Only way I see us signing domestic players is through an expiring contract or a release clause. Pl clubs are rich enough to not even bother play our lowball offer games, villa have shown even championship clubs aren’t interested in our tactics

As I look at the 25 man squad now I see 5 possible areas we can upgrade if I’m being fussy.
LB: for all Davies improvement I still think he is no better than a decent back up. And it’s looking unlikely Rose will ever be same player.
DM: will wanyama get back to his best ? Even if he does part of me thinks dier/wanyama are too similar and I’d possibly trade in wanyama for someone a bit better on the ball.
CM: Obvious dembele replacement. As long as winks gets back to best, starting to think I might keep sissoko. He causes no fuss and is a useful 3rd choice or 7th choice AM lol.
AM: Nkoudou is a waste of space, I’d probably replace him with someone young upcoming. Not sure we to spend £70m on a zaha tbh.
ST: Obvious Kane back up needed handy if could play wide as well.

I hope we can get 1 or 2 in January otherwise next summer we could need 5 or 6 which will be a stretch. 2 of the 5 I’ve pointed out could be young potential. So that leaves 3 major signings at this point to strengthen us. Nothing in the summer has defo left us playing catch up next 2 windows.

I don't see us getting a back up striker in tbh, with Son and Mpura both showing they can play up front to a fairly decent standard.

on the contrary my friend, the window went completely to plan. Issue bullsh*t rumours of a warchest- check. Sell out STs and cheese room- check. BSoDL insist we can only complain after the window has slammed shut on our noses- check.

We know that when we sell that pussy Eriksen, who couldn't tackle an empty crisp packet, the proceeds won't be used on the stadium to optimise the value of ENICs investment? Don't we?
I don’t think any of us would/could tackle an empty crisp packet :bored:

I get what your saying but I still think a young upcoming would be a good option like calvert-Lewin or Abraham.

Turned out he was nowhere near ready. Hamburg got relegated but Arp is still playing for the 2nd team.
I don't expect him to be ready as he's only 17. Was worth a cheap punt and we could either loan him back, or keep him and play him in our reserve teams while he becomes HG as he's that young and would be eligible for that by the time he turned 21. Most would still consider him a talent from what I can read but he was in a terrible team and is still really young.

Not sure how he's meant to improve if we loan him back, by all accounts if he's not improving now then there isn't much point, same if he's playing for our reserves.

These sort of players need first team football at a generally higher level if they're ever gonna get better and progress, pointless if we buy him because he's never gonna see the first team.

We could loan him to a place where he could potentially succeed... I don't care, it was a punt on a talented prospect for cheap that would effect HG rules. He's 17, I'm sure he would be fine as a successor/backup to Kane for a while.

I mean really, what would be the difference in doing that vs Foyth? Except we would be getting him even younger.

Why don't we ever seemingly shop in Spain? There are talented player galore over there.

If a CM like Rabiot or De Jong were being looked at by some of the other big clubs, they can be assured of a lot more starts for Spurs than some of the other clubs who are stock piling CMs.

Yesterday proved once again how much we need a CM that can do a bit of everything. We should be throwing everything at Ajax for De Jong.
