Sounds impressive until you put it into some context.
Modric to a foreign league rather than Chelsea, Kroos with a year left, Kovacic due to Inter FFP struggles, Isco 30mil, Ceballos 18mil release clause.

PSG great scouting on Verratti and Rabiot was a youth product.

the season we finished 2nd Wanyama and Dembele where big factors and put the style we play better at in full view.

the fast and quick 1-2's around the area usually end up with Man C's speedy skilful players creating for each other. I don't think we have the players to fit that style or the money to go out and buy them (my opinion)
I agree, but we also had dynamic fullback play that essentially allowed us to play with 2 extra wingers because of how good Rose and Walker were. We require a different setup to that now, IMO.

I know they just bought him but Lerma from Bouremouth would be a nice replacement for Dembele from the two games I have watched them play

well we will need to buy 2 dynamic FB's, a Wanyama replacement and a Dembele replacement, which would be a lot cheaper than replacing our midfield and inverted wingers, and would still need fast WB's.

to play the style like those teams would mean so many changes, and that won't happen too quickly (NEVER)

I think most of us agree those are the biggest positions we are struggling with... so not sure what you mean exactly.

as pointed out by @Ossie85 the style we are used to needs a more b2b dribbling enforcing CM, what you and others are asking for would mean changing our style (to play the style you mentioned the top teams play). in my view I don't think our front players have enough of what would be required to play like Man C

Overall, we certainly need to reinforce the team with players that complement Poch's preferred way of playing. I agree that attempting to replicate other teams isn't feasible in the short term. You have to build a bridge to get there. In the case of City, their forwards and midfielders all have common traits: very good close ball control, superior fitness, acute football intelligence and brilliant awareness. When watching them, I think they are so effective because of their ability OFF the ball. They're always in motion, finding pockets of space. It's much easier to take one or two touches when those around you are darting around quickly looking for an open area. Compare that to our team, and the off the ball work is very different. We're much more methodical and dare I say, pedantic. So, if we wanted to emulate Pep's philosophy, it would require systemic change over two or three seasons to implement properly.

So, for now, I hope that Poch will get a chance to bring in a couple of players that can help immediately, which means being able to fit into our system quickly, so that they can have an impact this season. To me, that begins and ends in midfield. Problem is... not sure who we can get in January that checks all the boxes. No point in just brining any old player in if it's not an immediate salve.

The Sun now saying we're after Barella of Cagliari and "will bid 35m in January", not sure I believe anything the sun says but this kid is good. Would really like him to replace Dembele. Has the tools we are deperately missing

Long term I think we need both a Dembele replacement and a Wanyama replacement. I'd be thrilled with Barella and Diawara.

I think there are massive differences in the types of passers that Lamela and Alli are compared to Winks & Eriksen. We need another player who can dictate tempo. Alli at times is painfully slow on the ball most of the time. Midfielder is sort of like point guard in basketball where you need to setup players and get everyone involved, I don't think Alli and Lamela play with that sort of style. And not to mention 3 of those 4 are primarily attacking midfield players.

The best teams in the world play with passers in the middle of the pitch, not dribblers.

I expect abuse for this but I honestly wish we'd throw our hat in the ring for Mata. I think he just makes things happen & would really help take Winks to another level.

Story came out after the transfer window that said we asked for Martial & Mata in return for Toby.

Barella looks more like Eriksen than a cm that dribbles imo

Agree doesn't look like a cm, though he did remind me of winks with the pirouettes and ping passes at times. Actually reminded me of positions that lamela would take up on the breaks and counters rather than eriksen. Don't think I could see a balance of him and winks in a 2 but maybe pochs looking hard at this 3 shape and diamond. I remember he tried it once in the first game of the season with bentaleb and dembele flanking a dcm. Think it was v Newcastle? Didn't work mainly due to personnel. Dembele seems to be a 2 cm player where he's more involved and central.

Regardless never heard of the guy, but he's got nice feet, is flashy and my kind of footballer. Saying that he is over zealous and seemed to run in to drama a lot, his psyicality wasn't enough on many occasions. Will draw a ton of fouls in the prem and probably a lot of injuries. Hope if he comes he's got a tough body.

I agree though more of an eriksen replacement than a dembele.

I was wondering how long it would take for PL clubs to be linked to Barella. He’s very much a B2B but can play further forward if needed. He’s a hard worker, very clever considering his age, fast, excellent at tackling and good at taking the ball and transitioning. He’s still young tho and learning the game. He is very well known in Italy as one of their biggest youth prospects having already been capped at 21. Juve, Inter and Milan have been after him for a while and already put in a lot ground work. He will go for more like 45 + then 35 IMO and I very much expect him to stay in Italy despite suposedly favouring England. Fantastic prospect but really don’t see it happening. Much bigger clubs then us are after him.

Nope, he’s very much a CM b2b. Fantastic at recovering the ball, transitioning the ball, creating chances. The one thing he lacks is he doesn’t score enough (last season being the exception), he works tirelessly but he vary rarely hits the back of the net. Bellow is an extract from a recent Goal article that gives some stats from last season...

No outfield player in Serie A has made more recoveries than Barella this season (72), while only five players have won more tackles than him (16). Only one midfielder has made more interceptions, while he ranks fourth in terms of duels won.

However, there is more to his game than tenacious tackling and a relentless pursuit of possession. Barella is also both talented and brave on the ball.

At just 21, he has already developed into a leader at Cagliari, a player willing to take charge of the game. Only six midfielders in all of Serie A have had more touches than he this season (557), which only serves to underline his importance to the Cagliari side, while his long, raking, right-footed passes are a feature of every game the Sardinians play.

He is willing to take players on too. He has completed more dribbles (8) than wingers Douglas Costa and Ivan Perisic (6), while he has created more chances (12) than the likes of Radja Nainggolan (9) and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic (9).

As mentioned above, he is a huge prospect and very well known. If he was really avalible for 35 mil he would have gone already. Would be a excellent signing but really don’t see it happening. This article compares him to Nainggolan in regards to his versatility and hard work, mix in a bit of Verratti and he’s there abouts. Also, as a side note, he’s not the biggest, quite similar in build/height to Winks.

Here is the full article for those that want to read more about a player that we will probably never get.
