Even then, in a dream scenario if you added a HG GK and let Vorm leave and traded out Llorente for a guy like Callum Wilson or Joshua King you have 8 HG players.

You could also alleviate pressure (won't be a popular opinion right now) if you swapped Sissoko out for Onomah. That would be a no brainer for me. Onomah in and a HG gk and you're at 8, that without Davies counting.

Unless he has a kane like miraculous upturn, Onomah isnt going to be good enough now. Its a shame as we all had high hopes. Unfortunately for him, we've surpassed what his progression has been and we'd be fuming if he started league games for us now. He'll make a good career for himself. Just not with us unfortunately

Thank you. Ah yeh I remember some talk a while back. Didn't associate as I used to work occasionally for an art director with the same surname but he pronounced it 'pwaig'.. Thanks also for the lowdown, I don't know him as a player.
He's hyped as your typical Barcelona midfielder but they all are and they haven't really produced a good one since Busquets/Fabregas and that was a long time ago since they came on the scene.

Don't disagree, I roll my eyes every time I see someone mention his name as the Dembele replacement. But as a 5th option central midfielder, with even Eriksen and Alli being able to fill in he's fine to fill a spot in the squad for HG purposes. Now if he's fine to settle for that, its up to him.

Their academy does get overhyped.. That golden generation with pep was not the norm, just like the beckham generation at utd...freakish.

I tend to agree, everyone was told that Christian Tello, Gerard Delofeu, Denis Suarez, Sergi Samper, were going to be the next stars coming out of La Masia and none have lived up to the billing.

Yeh. Its an acheivment to even produce good level players on a regular basis, but top notch talent doesn't grow on trees. Our last 3 attempts didn't turn out so well. dos Santos, ceballos and falque were all decentish in their own right. But not good enough.

Plenty of people disagree on Barkley and fair enough I respect others opinions, however no one has given any other solutions.
De Jong is a pipe dream, missed the boat on the French midfielder also in my opinion.
We need homegrown players and I'm struggling who to think of, Delph had a good game for England the other day? Not fancying grealish at rumoured 30 mill buyout.
Any more ideas??

Hadn't heard grealish had a buyout.

There is a common denominator with both those statements.
But the fact is if you want to be considered one of the big boys, you have to act like it.
I don't agree with agent fees but that is part of football unfortunately.
All clubs do it

I must of said this about 5 times on SC. The whole agent fee rubbish that we won’t pay them is utter drivel. We used to be one of the highest payers of agents fees 4/5 years ago for a good couple of seasons.

It’s a weird narrative spun by people that’s conpletely untrue. We will pay the agents fees if we need to as history has shown us.

Isn't the story though that we've changed all of that in recent years though?

Who’s to say we wouldn’t go back to it once in the stadium. We’d of signed Barkley if we wanted him enough but Chelsea was too much of a draw for him. Wages and signing on fee.

And injury.....Grade 3 Hamstring injury at that. Let us not overlook that very important factor. Chelsea can afford to stockpile players to maintain HG status quotas, regardless of many factors. Us on the other hand really can't afford another broken CM playing for us.

What is my statistics based argument?
You said: " Winks is tidy and keeps the ball moving, but he doesn't place many forwards passes," in the context of a conversation comparing him to De Jong. The bolded is a statistics-based criticism, it can be quantified, and it is actually inaccurate, especially in comparison to De Jong.

Sorry, I don't trust squawka stats. It's very difficult to rate passes with numbers. A 1 meter or 20 meter forward pass will be the same for squawka. Is a pass 10 meters to the left, but 1 meter forward a forward pass or a sideways pass for squawka??
I trust what I see with my own eyes, and I don't have an agenda against or for any of the 2 players mentioned
Winks has a higher ave pass length than de Jong (15.64m v 13.82m). 49% of de Jong's passes are backwards, 45% of Winks are.

Just remember what you've said. I'm convinced this kid is the real deal and will be Dembele successor ( there I've said it)
