I think Berge could be good for us. It'd be an interesting signing. Another physically imposing player who can spread the play. But I wouldn't want that to put us off pursuing Ndombele - a statement of intent who could solidify our central midfield for years.

It would also be good to have competition for places in CM/DM - Poch is rotating often.
I just worry that the better technical players in the PL would just play around Berge in midfield. He could be a Matic or he could be a Papa Baba Diop.

He's pretty quick despite how tall he is, although I understand the concern.

@daryl hannah I see Berge as a Wanyama replacement and Ndombele as more of a box to box Dembele replacement. I think you could play both together.

Berge strictly opinion! No ITK!!
Quite curious signing. Could go either way to what player he would turn out to be. I find him an interesting choice, and has something about him. Just not overly sure though.

I'd be excited about the possibility of being able to rotate Dier with another DM who can still be a progressive player from that position.
Maybe he could help us with some of those set piece issues we've had this season as well. He'd likely be the tallest player on the field every time he lines up (other than GKs).

Thanks Hercules, i've been a lurker for a couple of years but always meant to say thank you for all the info you've provided.

I haven't seen much of Berge, but he appears to match the profile of the up and coming player we should be going for.
Young, good body strength, a turn of pace and appears decent on the ball. So the raw qualities to become a decent dm/cm option for us. if we could get him in in january, we could give him some minutes and ready to push on the following season.

A signing i'd welcome.

It's his agility that would worry me rather than his speed. It might be unfounded, as I haven't seen much of him play, I'm just being sizeist tbh.

Also in his highligh vids, when he dribbles, at times it looks as though his turn is pretty slow and the opposition player could nick it off him if they were 100% commited to doing so, which they will be in the PL.

I do live the idea of having a DM with his passing range though.

Surely we'd be after Diawara from Napoli rather than Allan? Diawara isn't playing that much but still has bucket loads of potential and fits a need perfectly in that he's more defensively inclined but an excellent passer.

Mental as it sounds, Berge could be a punt at £15m - if it doesn’t come off it’s not the end of the world as surely he’ll get most of that back

If we can ship Dembele out in January, Olivier Ntcham could be a clever signing. Bit raw still but is athletic, has a goal in him and has very good technique. Bit of a Dele-lite. I know it’s SPL but the standard is no worse than Erevedsie and everyone is excited about De Jong. Also, he’d count as HG as he was in Man Coty’s youth system.

I can't say I've watched too much of him - despite being Norwegian myself - however I don't believe he is slow. Certainly not a lumbering oaf like Fellaini. He is tall, but I remember reading he could've had a career in tennis as well, so he does have an athletic talent. Also, I see there is an article in Norwegian media from September this year saying that he is in fact the quickest player at his club Genk. They had a 40m sprint test where he clocked in at 4,7 sec despite him being 193 cm tall and weighing 95 kgs. It is nearly as quick as the Norwegian record holder (footballer) John Carew who did it in 4,68 sec when he was younger, and that's been a record that stood for a while I think.

However, I'm not saying he is definetly going to be what we need, but he is one of the most interesting players coming out of Norway for a long, long while. It might be worth at punt perhaps.

I tend to agree at this point. My only reason to sell would be if Poch is just going to continue to not use him. He's only played 136 minutes so far this season with 77 of those coming in one game. If Poch is only going to start him once every 4 months the transfer fee may be more valuable than that.

Nah he's still needed for the right moments, if he hadn't have come on against PSV for example we would have lost that match.

Hmm. Interesting stuff. Thanks. Carew was freakishly quick for his size in his prime at Valencia, so that’s a good comparison.

Having spent a bit of time in Norway too, generally most young people I’ve met there have there head screwed on properly and are more mature than English people of the same age.

(1)Tattoos and (2)sucking his fingers
make him unacceptable
according to new Tottenham signing guidelines.

Does (1) rule most young players out?
Excellent.
Clean living boys only please.

No to tattoos? We'll have to sell Alli then.:)

Getting tougher and tougher to pick our first xi. Although I’m loving sissoko currently I need to see it for rest of season to be totally convinced. But still playing 4 at back and Dier holding its 5 from 9 when all fit. I guess dembele is the obvious upgrade but we are pretty bloody strong. Honestly don’t know my current best 5 in combination.

Winks
Sissoko
