What was the reason we didn’t pursue N’dombele in the summer? Was it the situation with an agreement with his parent club and Lyon, or something the scouts had concerns with? Because he had looked like the closest to a Dembele clone around, and now I suspect he’s out of our price range

Because we're skint.

There’s too many superclubs looking for a midfielder next summer. Barca, City, Real, probably more. De Jong, Ndombele will undoubtably be top of most of those lists.

We need to think outside the box a little and spot someone who just needs a little polishing up.

What? Like them last summer.

need to address home grown rather badly.
if we can ship out GKN, Janssen for a few quid maybe we would be open to also dealing Fernando away to try and set up a deal with Spam for Declan

Blimey, just watched some clips of Ntcham.. He looks impressive for Celtic!! Maybe a cheaper alternative to Ndombele?

Basically. We need to go in for someone before they have that breakout season, otherwise their agents are only taking calls from clubs that pay top dollar.

Our ability to do this effectively seems to have vanished. We used to be so good at it.

Yup. I do feel our scouting has taken a down turn. Especially in some positions. I'm not confident in our ability to acquire AMs. Aurier, while he's coming good, was an odd buy.

It's not all bad news: Sanchez was good, as were Son and Moura (among others) - but they were hardly unknown.

Watching Ndombele last night, it feels absurd that we didn't go in for him in the summer. He looks an absolute sure thing and we will now (very likely) be competing against the best teams in the world for him

For me there is no coincidence that our most fluid performance coincided with the return to the team of the Son - Dele - Eriksen triumvirate.

I like Lamela’s attitude, who doesn’t, but far too often he seems to run into trouble. Moura seems to have unbelievable talent but doesn’t seem able to translate that consistently to hurting the opposition, I’m not talking just goals and assists I’m talking about creating fear in the opposition of the type that other similar players in the league do - Sane, Mane, Mahrez even Zaha.

Quite funny how this thread has flipped based on one fluid performance, suddenly we have a squad that is nigh on impossible to improve. I don’t buy that, I think the issues we had a few weeks ago are still there.

I'm all for improvement, and maybe the fear factor you talk of is debatable regarding Moura.

What I would like to mention is the fact that this is Moura's first full season in a Spurs shirt. 4 months in, 13 premier league games. He's bagged 4 prem goals, won POTM for August, and for the relatively low fee we paid in the current market, I'd say he was an excellent acquisition and certainly deserves more time before being written off so quickly.

He clearly has ability, and hopefully under Poch's guidance will excel further and hopefully meet your criteria. (y)

EDIT : I must confess that I was not overwhelmed when we were linked or had just signed ( can't remember which,) wrote as much on here.

I too at the time stated that I would've preferred Martial or Zaha, blistering pace and the fear factor.

But like I said, I've got to look at what Moura's done thus far in a 1/3 of his full debut season, and I think he has performed well and has certainly given himself a decent platform to work from.

Moura seems to be more of a team player than those two though. You only have to see how he’s integrated with the team to see how much of a Poch player he is. The scouts got that right. I’m not sure Zaha or Martial are really players you could trust when the chips are down. They seem a bit sulky.

Oh for sure. Like I stated, I'm more than happy with Moura. (y)
