NHL.84 game season plus play offs and it’s an actual contact sport..

NHL you have 2 line ups that can interchange during the match at anytime and as often as they want playing 3 periods of 20 mins. Football is 3 subs max for 90 minutes. Not comparible

burn out or not, i think depends on how the tournament goes. So much of sport of psychology even at amateur levels never mind top pros.

if the tournament goes well (as at has) and the squad come back as heroes, i think it could have a very positive effect on how they start the season (see Gazza and Lineker after Italia 90, who were brilliant the following season).

Fatigue is obviously important but they should have a head start in terms of fitness and conditioning against those who's season finished in May.

Burn out would be a bigger factor if these world cup players were in their 30's. They are still all very young, a few weeks off and the huge confidence boost of the semi/finals/winning it, will be worth it's wait in gold. Plus the further experience some of our key players are getting about handling the 'big occasion' is priceless. Give them a few weeks down time and they will be raring to go. We are fortunate as well to have the likes of Lamela, Moura fully rested and chomping at the bit to get going. No issues for me on this.

3 years ago we had a squad full of players with very little big match experience. We now have a squad that have been in a title chase, 3 CL campaigns and 9 players in world cup semis. And they have all done this and grown together. Might get a very short term blip. But long term the experience gained will be priceless.

I'm more worried we have five away games from our first seven. And one of the home games is at Wembley. I agree that the experience of playing in matches at this level is priceless and the buzz around the club with so many players having gone so far in the tournament will be a big plus. And every 8-year-old in the country will want to be Harry Kane so a whole generation of Tottenham supporters is being created this summer. Long term I can only think this WC will be great for the club.

Spurs are the most represented club in terms of players still at the World Cup going into the semis with a whopping 9 players there.

The silver lining is 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th are all in the Premier League too. (Arsenal noticeably absent so have no excuses next season)

Spurs 9
Chelsea 7
Man City 7
Man Utd 7
Liverpool 4
Barcelona 4
Monaco 4
Paris St Germain 4
Marseille 3
Real Madrid 3
Atletico Madrid 3
Inter Milan 2
Juventus 2
Leicester 2

Another thing to consider is if England did win it you’d have at least a week of bus parades and media circus. They’d be lucky to get a week of relaxation on a beach.

We've got 9 players in the World Cup semi-finals, right, with 6 of those being in their countries first teams from the start? Just fucking proud right now, really. They'll work next season out.

Plus we seem to have lost Sonny for the first game. If the unimaginable happens and England win then our start to next season is really screwed up. Whatever happens we now have all our remaining players there to next weekend for the 3rd/4th play off. Fantastic for the country, not for Spurs!

They have to take 3 weeks off. So earliest they will all return is August 6/7 th. Can’t see anyone starting that’s been in pre season for 5 days.

they have to have a 3 week break, but doubt all 9 will be on the piss and stuffing their faces with big mac's every day. a good chance the majority if not all will keep themselves fit. it's not like the 6 weeks the non WC players have had off, so they might not be 100% match fit, but then nor are the majority of the League when it does KO. at the end of the month I would expect the main group will be rested for the friendlies early Sepember

Don’t think England will have friendlies anymore. Will be straight into euro 2020 quails and the friendly dates are now taken by that new competition nations cup or whatever its callled. Will almost become the league cup of international football. But I’d imagine Southgate will want to win it and keep momentum going. Can’t remember who we are drawn with but know it’s tough I think Spain and someone else.

Sorry it’s spain in nations cup and a friendly against Swiss.

Spain and Croatia in September break.

It's Spain and Croatia in the Nations League - in September we play Spain in that and the Swiss in a friendly. There'll still be some space in the slots for friendlies, but around four fewer than there were before per two-year cycle, minus another two if England get to the Nations League Finals Tournament or get relegated a couple of divisions.

It is a concern as Poch won't play anyone who hasn't had a proper preseason. Is the mid winter break coming in next season?

If it is, then that would really help us.

think its the season after.

Poch knows they only had a week off after the season, 9 of the players have got through to the final weekend so knows they won't need a pre season, but also knows that 7 of them might need to be rotated, though I very much doubt Kane will want to sit league or CL games out

good thing for us then that the young hot shot talents N'koudou and Janssen are back at the club, plus Sissoko has had the summer to prepare mentally

why we haven't bothered to sign anyone in time for preseason, we're ready

I might be wrong on this but I believe the kind of stuff they do in preseason is totally different from what they do during the season training wise. I think it’s much more about building the core strength and then that’s like a base for match fitness to go on. So I’m not sure if people saying they are match fit they won’t need to do pre season holds any relevance. Likely it’s less than someone who’s been off for 6 weeks. But I still reckon they need at least 10 days -2 weeks and the 9 will only return on about the 7th.

Anyone else worried about the start of the season?

Most of the players involved in the WC won't be ready.
Trippier possibly injured?
Kane either injured or exhausted or both

Trying not to be too pessimistic but I have my doubts about some of our 'second string' players. We might not see a full strength or near full strength team until late August/ September.
