Eriksen, Vertonghen and Lloris played more. The WC players obviously won't be doing double training sessions as they haven't been on a beach all summer. They'll be fine. I swear some posters on here aren't happy unless there's some impending doom on the horizon. Just chill out.
Personally I think, after his performance in the final, Hugo need a few weeks resting up cruising the Mediterranean ( I do mean ‘cruising’ as a nautical term for all the funny feckers out there!)

You want him to do some port calling.

The so called burn out myth

apparently we were the only team in the PL that had players play in the comp, so we will suffer burnout, and everyone will finish ahead of us as our squad will be knackered by Xmas

It seems that way. One thing I will say though it will make a difference that we have a winter break now. It is a long season without a break so this will help. You just dont need as much time as people suggest to recover. 2 weeks will be enough before going again. Having a tournament actually keeps you in shape so it's not a bad thing. 2 weeks now and then 2 weeks again in January will be good.

I'd have kane, alli and trips on the bench at best vs newcastle. Looked knackered and/or picked up knocks at the WC. The other spurs boys in Russia bar Son who is unavailable should be fine to start IMO due to the their playing position or style, minutes on pitch, or time of elimination.

Hope we get a forward in so we can avoid starting janssen or llorente, and sell them on. I wouldn't start Kane until fulham.

We have plenty options for in trips and dele positions who can be successful vs newcastle, esp if grealish finally arrives.

the thing is as I mentioned somewhere, last season Llorente never had a proper pre-season, definitely not a Poch 1, and just never got enough minutes to find confidence and form. This season he will get a full pre-season (hopefully injury free) a good chance he will be our striker on tour, and would be fully match fit by time we play Newcastle.

always a small chance we might be able to use Llorente sell end of August and hopefully by then Kane will be up and running

Definitely a worry all round. Season starts in 3 weeks. Half the first team needing most of that that time in complete mental and physical rest before they can even consider a Pochettino pre-season.

Son missing for the first month.

6 or 7 transfers out and 3 or 4 proper, quality signings in required. Not squad players. 10 plus deals need to be done.

All away games at the start of the season, then 3 of our first 4 games at NWHL are Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City.

Other than that everything's sweet

I'm definitely a bit concerned about our start to the season. Over the last three seasons we have played 10 premier league games in August, winning just 2 of those. Had hoped early signings with a full pre-season might help address this but we could be in for another difficult start to the season. Always playing catch up.

If we stripped out our players that made at least the semis from our team for the first game back, what would it look like?

Vorm

Aurier Sanchez Carter-Vickers Davies

Wanyama Winks

Moura Eriksen Lamela

Llorente

It really isn’t ideal but I’ve seen far worse Spurs teams. And I’m sure some of those players who made the semis will actually be OK to play.

Foyth for Ccv. I’d probably play Lamela as a false 9 and start sissoko. Llorente is just a complete waste of time.

So how much time do you think each player will have off does everyone think?

Say, two weeks for every player involved?
Or each individual has their own schedule?

Eriksen = Nearly been three weeks since he exited the competition - I can imagine he will be the first back? But probably won't be on the US tour

Sanchez = Exited a couple of days later than Eriksen so maybe a similar timescale, although being in Colombia may mean he gets a couple of extra days.

Verts, Dembele & Toby = Ignoring the politics on transfers for a moment. One week into their holidays, another week rest or so??

Rose = Didn't play too much in the tournament so I can't imagine that their will be too much stress on him. He needs to get match fit too so I would imagine a short rest and a preseason to bring him back up to speed. He suffered last season because of his injuries and lack of preseason so it could be a case of optimising his fitness.

Dier, Trippier & Alli = I imagine that they will all get another ten days or so.

Kane = The tricky one. If he's carrying an injury he needs a longer rest. But we know that sometimes Kane can look sluggish and in need of a rest only to burst into life. Also having picked up two injuries in the season, it suggests that he did have a rest. I think it will come down to whether or not he's carrying an injury, if not I think he can push through any sluggishness as the season goes on.

Lloris = Think we won't need to worry about him. A return a week before the first game of the season just to get his reflexes sharpened after rest and I think it'll be fine.

Possibly, I think upfront and partner to Sanchez are the two most likely places to be filled by someone from the semis. The question Pochettino will ask is whether the cover is better than the first choice without a proper preseason. In most cases it will be the former but with Kane and Vertonghen I wouldn't be surprised if Poch goes for the latter. I'm sure a lot will come down to that final week of training before game 1.

Another point people haven't discussed is the potential positive of starting without some of our first choice line-up. For players like Lamela and Moura this is an opportunity to make a compelling claim to be a first team starter. Moura was only doing cameos last season and Lamela was rotating as a first team starter towards the end of last season but you always felt his inclusion had the biggest question mark over it. If they make good starts, it will increase competition for places, which improves everyone – or so you hope.

And that may be good too because for some players going from a big World Cup run to a Premier League game in northern England will feel anti-climatic and it may take a few games to get going again. Seeing your competitor for your spot playing out of their skin might put you into gear faster!

It’s a tad worrying.
We’ve still got options of course but our lack of activity in the market, means we’ll be relying on our squad players to step up, which hasn’t gone great in recent years.

The level of talent we’re being linked with suggests more squad players too. A poor start could fuck the league immediately
A poor start WILL fuck the league immediately

We aren’t winning the league. Even if we bought Kovacic and martial it would be a tough job to go past city.
with Liverpool improving their defence and midfield we will very probably be fighting for third / fourth
