Bit of a shit game to get the world cup going but who cares I'll still be watching it. The two lowest ranked teams apparently. But hopefully an entertaining game.

The host always plays the opener. Just a tad unlucky getting Saudi-Arabia in their group and as the opener. Regardless, I think it's gonna be entertaining football today

Can't wait.
Not a great game to start but then this group is fairly open, so both teams should be going for it.

Some of the build up was just cringey and inane but now it is upon us, let's hope it's a good one with plenty of goals, action and controversy, plus everyone stays safe.

It clearly says max stake £1...
Yeah, I know that. I placed the bet and it said the returns would be £1.39 which confused me. But then I re-read it and it says that it pays the normal return but tops it up in free bets after. Was just confused, my bad.

Last shout out before the tournament starts to join the SC World Cup Predictor leagues!

If you fancy playing, click the links below. There’s a pre-tournament bracket-style one which closes today an hour before the first match, plus a Match Predictor where you predict all of the individual matches.

In each case there’s a PIN to join the SC League. After you enter, navigate to the Leagues section, where you can enter it to join.

The first match is always such a crap one. I know often the hosts are crappy teams who didn’t have to qualify (and are seeded) against Group Stage fodder, but it’s still hard to get excited about Russia v Saudi Arabia!

Tomorrow looks a lot better though and Saturday is amazing - 4 matches all one after the other! Luckily I arranged the day out with some mates months ago before the Mrs had any idea what it was for! :playful:

The last great opening day game was Germany v Costa Rica in 2006. 4-2 with some cracking goals.

Not expecting anything like that this time.

Craig Foster on SBS educating Australia on every team in the competition, and most importantly killing time before the FUN opening ceremony. Quite positive about England, pointing out how the coaching methods have changed and younger age groups have done well, how the top Prem teams have great coaches and most of the squad come from these teams so they are well drilled, much more organised etc, and suggesting Southgate has got the team playing well. Looks like they have Martin Tyler commentating later and he said the same.

Bilic was bang on about VAR. Yes it has issues but given the stakes in world cup football the most important thing is fairness.
