I thought Denmark shaded it over 120 minutes to be honest.

However, their player should have been shown a red for the pen, which robbed Croatia of a fair goal, and it was probably a retake for Schemical leaving his line. So in those terms, you can't really argue with Croatia edging it in the end.

Modric was the best player on the pitch, and showed great heart taking a second pen. Eriksen wasn't far behind him, and it's a bummer he missed, but he won't be affected by it long term. It's just not the way he's built. He'll be fine.

Gutted for not only Eriksen, but the whole Denmark team, who out-thought and out-fought Croatia, despite being a championship side in everything but Eriksen and Schmeichel, up against a side made up of of players from Real, Barca, Juve etc.

Gutted for Eriksen. Pretty much single handedly dragged that team to the tournament and his peno wasn't even that bad. Anyway, time to relax now after a cracking season.

I love Luka but how the heck did you determine he was the MOM. He was rubbish tonight

.They were missing a striker of any quality, to finish a few chances. They go home with pride though.

You aren't allowed to tackle from behind so I think he should get a red under "having no possibility to play the ball"
I thought it was a red but seeing the replay the forward, at the moment the defender was going to get the ball, put his foot in the way.

The only mention of a tackle from behind in the fouls and misconduct section of the laws is the below:

"Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force or endangers the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play."

I'm guessing the ref decided the tackle didn't have excessive force nor endangered the safety of the opponent.

I swear I used to like Billic when he was Croatia manager or at least thought he was alright. He's been a right miserable sod in this World Cup coverage and just had a little strop for them showing his in-game reactions.

TBF they had their chance and completely bottled the penalties. That's was one of worst set of penalties I can remember ever watching. I can't believe England weren't involved.

That was an awkward moment for the panel. Takes himself way too seriously.

I really don’t understand Schone’s penalty. Why such short run-up? I feel like those kind of penalties are always missed.

He wasn't very good tonight?

Don't know what game you were watching, he was controlling the Croatian midfield.

Modric having a bad or average game > better than 99% of midfielders having a 'good/great game'.

There's levels in technique, positioning and intelligence.

The "ban" on tackles from behind was lifted a few seasons ago.

He went missing for large portions, Rakitic too.

His through ball that led to the penalty was sublime though.

If Modric wasn't the best player on the pitch, then who was? Only Eriksen came close. Croatia moved through Modric the whole night, and if he wasn't as good as we normally expect to see him, that's probably because we normally see him in an outstanding Real team.

So many Croatia players were poor tonight, and none of the Danes, ex. Eriksen, really have the technique to match Modric, so when I say he was the best player on the park, it may be damning with faint praise, but it's still true.
