Lawrenson is such a joyless individual. He was pretty much lauding Australia's time wasting earlier.

Yeah but they’re well drilled, organised and honest. You see football is not a sport to be played with beauty and creativity but a military activity.

What a fluke for 2-1.

I have to say, win lose or draw this and whatever they do in the tournament, I really do not like this French team. Collectively they have been rubbish, tactically they have made decisions that are ultra pragmatic - playing centre backs at fullback is one of my biggest annoyances in football. Individually they have a lot of undoubted talent, but I don't really like the way said individuals play the game or the choices they make. French players often seem to make the game a lot harder than it needs to be.

Deschamps.

They showed a great close up side angle which clearly showed him catching Greizman’s trailing ankle/foot?
I saw that and he didn't catch Greizman's foot, Greizman's foot caught his trailing foot and kicked it up in the air, the job of a defender is to play the ball not to play the ball and run away to avoid accidental contact.

Except of course when it was non-commonwealth nations doing it like Iran yesterday when it's a disgrace against football and an example of why there shouldn't be a 48 team World Cup.

That’s the most made-up bollocks interpretation of a rule I’ve ever read
Listen, if its good enough for Lawro, a guy who's built his stellar punditry reputation on nothing but sense and brutal logic...its damn well good enough for me.

Oh yeah when it’s countries like them, it’s anti-football.

Deschamps.

He doesn't help at all, but I don't think he's the only reason... If I'd gone further with that post I'd have said French football in general has those tendencies, that I personally don't like, and that from a Spurs perspective don't like our focus on the French market in the last few years..... But lets stick to the World Cup!

Iran were doing it against the Morocco, not a tournament favourite

Anyway, fairly miserable game of football I thought. France are very lucky to get three points there, but Australia were well drilled and neat and tidy but offered very little. First half especially I also thought they missed so many chances in transitions to spring the ball forward and look to counter attack, which you have got to look to do against better teams.

You an Aussie Phom?

Or you just not forgiven France for abandoning Sissoko?

Of course I'm an Aussie. Didn't my superior wit and knowledge on these boards make that obvious?

Sissoko might improve this French team. How can so much talent play so boringly. Only Kante looks like the player he is week in and week out.

Shearer was a disgrace about this, demanded that the likes of Iran and Saudi shouldn’t be anywhere near the World Cup. No coincidence as to where in the world both those teams are from. No doubt he’ll describe this Australia performance - a team who haven’t kept a clean sheet in a World Cup in 44 years - as full of grit and determination etc. Covert racism in football punditry of course.

Also, who ever decided that the World Cup can only feature well-matched teams from traditional countries? One of the things I love about the World Cup is seeing teams you’d never normally see playing opponents they’d never normally play. I don’t care if there are some mis-matches, I just love watching football, so fuck Shearer and the other boring old ****s and bring on that 48 team World Cup, I cant wait.
