I don't think RLC is anywhere near savy enough or dynamic enough to anchor and cover for players like Alli and Lingard in that set up. Certainly not yet.

Maybe not but maybe against Panama and then with Dier (or JH I guess) against better teams.

I support Spurs players through and through but let’s be honest, Henderson is a better option than Dier in the sitting midfielder role.

Agreed. But both aren't quite good enough. With a Modric or even Kante in there, England could win this world cup. With Henderson or Dier in there, our limitations will prove too great.

There’s no doubting that England still lack the quality of the likes of Germany, France, etc and Southgate can’t really do much about that, but at least this team tried to do more of the right things than previous incarnations.

I’m so sick of hearing English pundits say “they need to get the ball forward quicker” whenever a team is up against a well drilled bus park, and Tunisia were parked deeper and deeper as that game wore on.

First half Tunisia were awful, and a better quality team would have killed them.

Trippier, Henderson were the best performers over the 90. Alli was good for the first 30. LC decent little cameo and Rashford looked lively.

I’d have Rose in for Young and Loftus-Cheek for Linguard next game. I generally like Sterling, but he wasn’t great tonight and Rashford could start next one and see how he does.
Exactly my thoughts Jesse didn't get a hard time cos he went a bit missing 2nd half and people stopped noticing him and a proper left back providing width is needed against Panama. I'd give Sterling another start personally cos he has qualities that England need but although he never went missing he lost confidence on the ball.

It happens a lot on here when it's the 80th minute 0-0 and a team fighting relegation has parked the bus against Spurs. "Get forward quicker" or "just dribble to the goal line and cross it". If it was that easy to do, they would have done it in the first 80 minutes! Sometimes a team can just be well organized and you need a ball to fall to the right person. Thankfully the ball fell to Kane twice today.

I like Sterling, I think he gets a lot of unjustified shit, but I think Southgate's not making best use of him, effectively playing him furthest forward and very central, almost like a false 9. Against Panama I'd like to see England go 433, Alli and RLC either side of Henderson and Sterling and maybe Rashford either side of Kane.

I found this interesting (presuming it’s true)-didn’t know that was a rule

A kickoff cannot occur until the referee blows the whistle. The referee won't blow the whistle until everyone is on their own half of the field.

As for the actual law:

Obviously even if all 11 were off the field celebrating in the corner, they're not in their own half of the field. I'm not doubting that Trippier was told to be standing there, but there's no actual reason he needs too.

Agreed, he won't change from a back 3 though unless he's a cleverer fucker than we realised...

I do not think thats true but it is interesting why Trippier didnt celebrate with Kane but stayed right in Tunisia’s half.

Hmm, so not a rule but there must be a reason why Trippier and the Portuguese guy in the first tweet make a very conscious decision not to leave the pitch with the rest of them?

Professional players and managers carry quite a few misconceptions about the laws of football.
