Not a pen. The can see the contact, he can see it's ball to hand with no possibility of intent or avoidance, and he's correctly waved it away.

VAR has flagged it for review, which is fair enough, but the ref has the discretion to ignore it.

Denmark robbed.

Shouldn't be a booking but should have been a pen IMO, I've said for ages that not all handballs that are not intentional shouldn't be ignored because they are taking advantage away from the attacking team especially when the ball is going to goal, that ball was hitting the target and was unfairly stopped by the defender's hand.

That's not the rule though

Handling the ball

Handling the ball involves a deliberate act of a player making contact with the ball with the hand or arm.

The following must be considered:
• the movement of the hand towards the ball (not the ball towards the hand)
• the distance between the opponent and the ball (unexpected ball)
• the position of the hand does not necessarily mean that there is an offence

If a handball is not intentional then it's not a handball regardless of whether it's taken an advantage away from anyone. An unintentional handball means it might as well as hit you on the head as far as the rule is concerned.

When the ball hits the hand his arm is extended and above the shoulders. This is a clear handling offense.

No it isn’t - hence why they had to go to VAR to scrutinise it. The ball is a foot away from his arm and it’s going wide. The only time I could accept that as a penalty is if it was goalbound - it wasn’t.

Couldn’t care less if you’ve refereeing experience - that isn’t a penalty and if they’re going to start being given, it’s going to be detrimental to football.

I understand where you're coming from. Let me give you the view from the refs side. UEFA and FIFA have training courses that take video clips from all around the world which tell the referees what FIFA thinks the correct decision should be. Its done in an attempt to get top level referees on the same page when it comes to handling, red cards, etc.

Based on the instruction from FIFA, this is 100% a foul for deliberately handling the ball. It's not even debatable. Had the VAR not intervened, his World Cup would have been done after today for making such a clear error. I completely understand how you can feel it shouldn't be a PK, but on what referees are taught from FIFA it was absolutely the correct decision to give it. The fact that the referee took one look at it tells you how clear cut it was to him.

Away from the penalty stuff, Daniel Arzani is about to come on for Australia. Seen him a few times this season in the A-League and he's really promising. Already pretty good and massive potential to improve. Linked to Ajax this week!

Denmark need to get off their heels and start playing like they're a goal down. To much complacency and not enough effort. Australia shouldn't be able to do this to them.

What is the point of Sisto? All he seems to do is dribble and then lose possession.

Yes but they're not going to outright say that accidental handballs should be given because it'll just create confusion and create scenarios where attackers will just purposely aim for a defender's arm

I can give you thousands of examples where a defender has hand balled accidentally in the box that has taken advantage away from the attacker unfairly, it's not as cut and dry as accidental vs intentional - it's an extreme grey area.
