France and Netherlands don't have better quality bro

This French squad was labelled the worst french team of all time 6 months ago and the Netherlands would love our defence and wing options. They would have the intelligence to use the players properly

They do have better quality. The quality gap between Holland's defence and ours is smaller than the gap between our midfield and theirs.

Just because a squad has been labelled as the worst that country has ever had doesn't mean it's worse than the current England squad. I remember a lot people saying the German squad for the 2002 World Cup was amongst the worst Germany's ever had and frankly I would take that '02 squad over England's current lot.

Not sure I get this antipathy towards the Greeks. They don't play great football but they don't have particularly good players available so they do the best when what they've got. Still a damn sight better than the English, who can learn a thing or two about passion and pride playing for their country by watching the Greeks. Besides all that, the Greeks didn't win just because of fight and organisation, they were by far the better team- for all the Ivorian stars, Greece should've been out of sight long before the undeserved equaliser. At least the Greeks give their fans something to be proud of.
Another golden generation going down in history as a bunch of individual names and never a team.

Golden generation of Ivory Coast will go down as the great african underachievers or failures:
2006 ACN: Lost to Egypt in final
2006 WC: Unlucky to be drawn with and lose to Argentina and Netherlands in the group stage but did beat Serbia
2008 ACN: Lost to Egypt in Semi final and Ghana in 3rd place playoff
2010 ACN: Lost to Algeria in quarter finals
2010 WC: Drew with Portugal and Lost to Brazil in group stage, unlucky since brazil had nothing to play for against portugal
2012 ACN: Lost to Zambia in the final
2013 ACN: Lost to Nigeria in quarter finals
2014 WC: Lost to Greece and Colombia but beat Japan

Its a shame that Drogba, Yaya, Kolo, Zokora and etc didnt achieve anything with their country

Cant agree there mate

I watch alot of dutch footy and their management and coaching is way ahead of ours but their squad isn't. Evne their midfield is lacking Leroy Fer and de Guzman(Im a fan) weren't great this season.

As for france they struggled against Ukraine and are playing players that didnt have great seasons like Sakho, Evra, Sissoko, Valbuena, Debuchy and etc

Their management and coaching is a level beyond us whereas we are stuck with our italian coaching style

I'm pleased. Never liked Drogba the cheat and I have even more contempt for Yahya.

So happy for Greece.

It's the first game I've watched that the team I wanted to win won.

I can relax and enjoy this now England have finished stinking the place up.

Really surprised, didn't expect them to win. Kinda gutted for the Ivory Coast, losing to a late pen is really horrible. Also surprise at the big score line for Columbia vs Japan. Was thinking they would be taking it easy with 6 points already in the bag.

Good tournament for Honda thou.

Colombia are looking really strong. Shame the buggers couldn't keep a clean sheet though.

And yeah, Honda is quality.

England do not have better quality than France, absolutely no where near. I think we have better overall depth than the Netherlands though but then they have a manager who is on a completely different level to ours.

They were lucky to still be in it! Their goal was their only meaningful chance all game. We hit the woodwork three times, pushed their goalie into several saves and were desperately unlucky not to be out of sight by the time they equalised.

One thing I would like to say.

This is why International football is important. And why having a decent England side is imperative.

Its one of the few times the world unites as one. Imagine having having a great side the world talks about. Not just a league where a few people make millions off our money.

As I've said, nothing will change, turkeys don't vote for xmas, and England are turkeys but how I would love to see a quota system so we could have a tilt at a future World Cup in my lifetime.

Regardless of Suarez. His story will be the equivalent of chip paper once the second round starts. But the world cup is global. Even countries not in it are watching it, talking about it.

The premiership is just a soulless, corporate cash cow.

They're the international equivalents to Stoke City.

Stoke City hoof long balls up to a big striker, by passing midfield completely. Greece do nothing of the sort. I think you'll find (though I'm guessing you did not watch their game) that all their attacking play came about yesterday via quick incisive passes through the midfield, with Karagounis putting in one of the performances of the tournament. If you want the international equivalent to Stoke, look a little closer to home.
