Why do people consider Rooney to be part of the "old guard"- he's 28 FFS.

He'll be at the next World cup and potentially, at Euro 2020. In fact, he could go all out crazy and do a Lampard and turn up at the 2022 World Cup at the age of 36
I don't but he is part of the golden generation. I also said in that post he should be there but not undroppable.

I also predicted at the start of this season that he would be worse than before because he has peaked and the research that my uni had done on some of the best athletes in the world. He has been full time in the game for 12 years, players peak after 10 years which is why typically people say 28-32. Scholes came out and said the same thing. He wont make Qatar or be good enough for qatar.

I hate to stop you in your tracks but you are chatting shit,
here is the Real Madrid starting 11:
Benzema
Ronaldo --------------- Bale
Di Maria
Modric ----- Alonso
Marcelo -- Pepe --- Ramos -- Carvajal
Lopez
Only two of them were in the spanish world cup squad, barcelona first 11:
Messi
Neymar --------------- Sanchez
Iniesta --- Xavi
Busquets
Alba -- Pique --- Mascherano -- Alves
Valdes
They did have 5 players from their starting 11 go with Pedro and Fabreags. Heres Atletico Madrid starting 11
Costa ---- Villa
Koke --------------- Turan
Tiago --- Gabi
Luis Felipe -- Godin --- Miranda -- Juanfran
Courtois
Only 3 went and one of them got an appearance.

Now lets look at the italian top 3 teams. Juve:
Tevez Llorente

Pogba Pirlo Vidal
Asamoah --------------------------- Lichsteiner
Cheillini Bonucci Barzagli
Buffon
5 of the starting 11 but only 4 have played. Roma:
Totti
Florenzi --------------- Gervinho
Strootman --- Pjanic
De Rossi
Dodo -- Castan --- Benatia -- Maicon
De Sanctis
Only one person from the whole squad made the cut, de rossi of course. Finally Napoli also only had one player from their whole squad there and he isn't a starter for the National team. Inter play more than 3 on average? Their most played starting 11 is this
Palacio
Kovacic
Taider Cambiasso Guarin
Nagatoma --------------------------- Jonathan
Jesus Ranocchia Rolando
Handovic
Only one italian in the team line up! Ranocchia was the only one in the national team, worth noting just because they have italian citizenship doesnt make them italian.

The top 3 teams in Spain made up 10 of the starting XI then? Isn't that pretty much what I said?

I know Inter play more than 3 keep going to the other teams and you'll see what I mean. If you want to that is. My point remains.

Gary Lineker just regurgitated that story about the dead father.

Shocking how people make up shit and how said shit spreads.

No you said the top 3 spanish teams are bursting with spanish players and other than Barcelon a they aren't.

Also the inter one I don't understand tbh. THERE IS ONLY ONE ITALIAN PLAYER IN THE WHOLE INTER SQUAD!

No, I'm pretty sure he said "who had died just earlier, and he still managed to play."
No he said it just now and that Die was thinking of his father during the anthem which is why he was crying

Mate I'm pretty sure he was referring to the myth started today. Some on twitter agree too, I checked to make sure I wasn't deaf.

They might of said that earlier but he just said live now, that it was an error and that he died 8 years ago and that the emotion go to him and he was thinking of his father

Hahaha. I heard something completely different live now.

Oh well, all viewpoints are equally valid an' all.

Oh my God.

He said in his first link that the guy's father had died 2hrs before kick off.

They then showed a clip.

He then corrected the story in the following link and said it was actually 8 years ago, but he was thinking of him, so apologies for saying before that it was 2hrs before, but that was the story he'd been fed and was doing the rounds.

This all happened in about 3 minutes, in the middle of the Ivory Coast/Colombia highlights. It's that simple!

All viewpoints are not equally valid if they're factually incorrect - and you were right.

That last "equally valid" part was sarcasm allowing room for me to be wrong.

I get the idea you haven't the faintest clue what you are talking about and none of your theory is actually backed up by any facts. What about the other teams in Spain like Atletico (chap ions) or Sevilla (Eurpa winners) ? And you conveniently ignored Italy, or how about Portugal, France or Germany or Holland or Belgium ? Their quota systems are in some cases less stringent than England's, have much smaller populations competing with their imports, yet they continually manage to produce decent footballers and footballing international teams. Uraguay not playing Cricket or water polo doesn't explain how a nation with a population a quarter of London's manages to beat England. It is about an endemic ethos that was laid down by wankers like Charles Hughes and adopted by the litany of poorly educated dimwits who largely frequented football for decades. Anyone who read the Guardian or used a fucking clip board, or took notes was deemed not to be trusted, complicating a simple(tons) game.

This attitude didn't prevail in other countries where intelligence was valued not just physicality and stamina.

Yes, things have changed in English coaching in the last 10 years, and we are seeing the evidence of this now. Not some xenophobic bollocks about how it's all johnny foreigner's fault.

Absolutely spot on

Uruguay weren't particularly good and I don't think Luis Suarez didn't anything amazing either really. He just finished two good chances well as most good strikers would.

England just didn't seem to have an idea going forward. I personally think Uruguay knew they could just sit back and let us have the ball and we wouldn't have a clue how to break them down. Our goal came out of some luck with Glen Johnson getting away with a heavy touch (He is a poor player) and we had a few chances which were down to some poor defensive work from Uruguay than down to whatever we did really. Sturridge and Sterling were decent enough but I don't think anybody else came out well for me anyway and Gerrard was very poor, pulling out of a challenge for the first goal and then not heading the ball properly which lead to suarez. Overall, England really need some intelligence and for players to be technically adept when controlling and passing the football.

I wonder what Ivory Coast could accomplish if they'd apply themselves for 90 minutes or even 60 minutes. In both their games they've only really awoken after going behind. They came close several times yesterday overturning a two goal deficit with only 25 minutes of work.

I though Howard Webb had a bad game, too.
