So what do we think for tomorrow's semi?

I think Argentina will edge it, and I think this will be a hell of a lot closer - obviously lol

Gotta say I really feel for Fred. He was probably the least culpable yet was absolutely crucified. This all goes on Luis and Scolari for me. Luiz for being a total brainless twat (I mean come on, in the few mins before Germany's 5 goal flush he was playing every position but CB) and Scolari for sending his team out so naively.

Well I was dragged from Glasgow down to Leeds for the Pearl Jam gig tonight. Seen them 3 times now in the past five years and don't even like them that much.

They played for three fucking hours.

I think my girlfriend may have been miffed that I wandered out to the walkway and set my iPhone up with headphones on and watched about 60 mins of the game ! I ended up with 4 security guards, 3 bar staff on breaks and 6 guys from Venezuela crowded around my phone watching the game as Brazil got slaughtered.

World Cups only occur once every four years.

Brazil get destroyed 7-1 once in a lifetime.

Pearl Jam tour the UK every year now and play the same elongated boring croonathon.

I thought it was a solid argument although 'others' seemed to disagree

Well deserved and at least 20 years over due. We've lived with the PR machine that is Jogo Bonito since 1982, even though that was basically the last year they played it. Because once the thrill of being great wore off, the horror of not being able to live up to your own hype was too overbearing for the nation. And they became desperate realists, unwilling to give in to the temptation of their own "style" for football that Greece plays. And they got two more World Cups and more haters than they realized. Many of us quickly realized the disparity between the Brazil on paper and the Brazil on the pitch. We lived through how "magical" they were without ever being magical for 3 decades. The worst was 1994, when they could dupe a new nation of fools who were willing to listen. Yet it quickly became obvious that they weren't Jogo Bonito.....they were the team everbody claimed Germany or Italy was....efficient, machine-like, defensive......ugly. They were an abomination to their own PR campaign. And they nearly pulled it off against France four years later.....thank you Zizou. And they did pull it off, when the Turks were Brazil and they were Wimbledon 88, in the worst tourney ever in 2002. And then it ended, all for one final run at the 07 Copa. They were dealt with easily in WC06 and WC10 and even beaten by Mexico at the Olympics, a tournament they think they deserve to win.

And then this year. This team wasn't good enough to get out of its group, but it looked like the fix was in. Especially when they beat two far superior sides in Chile and Columbia by just beating the fuck out of them.

And so, Germany has finally brought the long deserved karma by embarrassing them in a tournament on their home soil. And maybe now, this nation that has lived off Pele, Garrincha, Jairzinho, Socrates, and all the others that actually played the game.....will fix their shit. And rather than trying to sell us a lemon, maybe they can treat the next generation of fans to something fun.

It might take time....but hey, it took you 32 years to destroy the soul of your beloved game and be taught the sins for such can be quite extreme. Remember, you got beaten by Germany 7-1. Germany is one of those teams you played off as being negative and uninspiring. But it was you that were such. My generation will never forgive you for the sins against football. But there is redemption out there for you. If your bold enough to accept that you aren't the only country in the world deserving of respect. Then one day you will accept that you can lose, be wonderful and still be proud.

But until then.....thank you Germany. The World finally owes you. It doesn't make up for anything, mind you. But you did good this time.

I have many favourite bits from last nights game but the one that stands out is how embarrassed the Germans were after scoring their 3rd 4tf and 5th goals. They were so professional.

On the 6th and 7th they couldn't give a toss about hurting the Brazillians

And this is why you should never ever listen to Piers Morgan:

David Luiz will drive Brazil to victory tonight. He's been my star of this World Cup. Such passion/commitment/determination. #BRAvGER

Also fancy Fred to come good tonight. He has to eventually. #BRAvGER

Never write off Brazil in Brazil. They will win... #BRAvGER

I backed Brazil to win, Fred to score & declared Luiz my man of the tournament. I feel a complete and utter prat.

Germany ain’t that good and Brazil ain’t that bad! Scolari totally lost the plot and buckled under the pressure and expectation - and that went straight to the players! Luiz, the captain of the ship, running blindfold off the plank from kick-off! Whole line-up and strategy was completely nuts! No defensive midfield, no marking, and just try and hoof it to forwards with no pace.
Van Gaal or Mourinho could have coached the same Brazilian squad for a couple of days; they obviously would have changed the line-up and strategy despite the lack of attacking options, and at least worked to get it to penalties.
Germans looked decidedly dodgy against Ghana, and very vulnerable to pace through the centre and the wings, and lucky to come out with a draw in that game.
If they meet Argentina in the final, I see them getting clogged in midfield, unable to use the flanks like they were given licence to today, and losing to a moment of Messi. If it’s the Dutch, then I fancy the Germans. Craziest World Cup I can remember!

Watch every goal back and you'll see one of the worst most inept performances from an international defender in WC history. Luiz. The rest simply let there heads drop, no leaders, no bottle.
Somehow Jose duped PSG into spending 50 million on him, and got Fabregas and Costa basically in return. Best bit of business he's ever done.

It will lift the Argies as much as it will heighten the support of Holland.

I still think this will be Messi's world cup. Never known a player like him, and he seems to love the big occasions.
Messi can't do it on his own now against the level of competition they'll be up against. Belgium and Switzerland are not the same level as Holland and Germany. Argentina has been mostly rubbish so far and I think Holland's attack could expose them.

May be totally wrong but I'll have you know that I'm 13 for 13 in my knockout stage predictions so far. ;)
