It will end up being split into quarters or thirds eventually. Too much money to be made from ad breaks.

This substitution is brought to you by McDonalds.
The yellow card just waved in Ronaldo's is sponsored by Ford Motors.
The sneering fan just pictured making the wanker sign and punching a copper was brough to you by British Airways.

It's only a matter of time.

But a TMO would waste to much time & interfere with the game. Wankers
The thing is I'm sure I saw the clock was still running. Unless it wasn't a TO. However the ref did blow at 20 mins and then they all went to the bench

Do you understand the meaning of "quarters" ?

A whole, divided into 4 equal parts.

Hence - a game of football, broke up by 3 planned breaks, into 4 QUARTERS.

Does that clarify things for you? I would have thought you would have learnt that in primary school mate.

Its actually being trailed already during the U17 tournament in Turkey atm. Though they needed it and its only 80mins matches

I don't understand why they need it though, its not as if there aren't enough stoppages in games already where players can, and do - take on liquids. To me, it just looks like an ideal excuse, and will result in this becoming the norm in all games.

Water break? Fine with that...

Allowing coaches to discuss tactics during the break... A big no no. Think the should have water boys bring bottles on the center circle.

There are two water breaks and the halves are not split into four 22.5 minute quarters...

Anyway, there's no point arguing about it because it really doesn't matter (y)

I don't see any thing sinister in this. There aren't actually enough breaks in a match too ensure that every player on the pitch gets enough water in every game. Sure when some body gets injured but not always.

When you see our lads playing in manaus vs italy you will see how ridiculous the conditions are in comparison to what an english person is used too.

Sounds like a sensible precaution to me. No one wants to see players passing out through dehydration. And it will give me enough time to get another beer out of the fridge without missing any of the action.

Or get a beer from the bar mid half, saves me doing my usual pre match bar routine of buying 2 pints at the same time

Buy 2 at the same time? Sod that... it'd get warm. Simply watch in a bar which has table service :)

I have started drinking real ale which is only slightly chilled, not sure table service would go down well in my local, need to get a bar seat in view of the TV I reckon

Former FIFA referee Urs Meier and Oliver Kahn have just discussed this issue in the build up to the Mexico-Cameroon game.
Meier said he doesn't see why it's been made an official rule since referees have been doing it inofficially for years, with Kahn replying the only reason he could think of would be the possibility for commercials during these breaks.
He's got a point to be fair

Or may-be they are just trying to make sure all the players get a drink, not just those that are near the ref when he has an unofficial break. Even if it is for commerical reasons I still think it's a good idea, and might even mean less stopages if they get rid of all the unofficial breaks.

How long are the breaks going to be anyway?
