I think they need to let it go now. It's getting pretty embarrassing.

How do you feel about that?

Dragging it out doesn't make it any easier. Roll on the draw when it can be all put to bed one way or the other.

I've always regarded Maradona as a cheat, at least since 1986.
For me, it tarnishes my thoughts of him as a footballer.

He cheated, not just then, but many times in his career and in that tournament. Diving, drug taking, fighting - whilst very, very talented, for me, I cannot class him as the best for all the other things he done.

And that game, we saw the best and worst of Maradona, in both goals.

Qtr final of the world cup, losing to a handball like that.

Naturally, I'd say it was worse than what happened the other week, but I'm english :)

As much as a cliché as it sounds it's still given me a sleepless night. Was awake until 3am last night thinking about it. I'm not saying it's my every thought since it happened, I was just discussing it on another forum before I went to bed and it set my mind buzzing again :-(

Respect for NOT letting it go!

We all have been fucked around by the big ones (teams, countrys) for centurys......and all we have done is letting it go......over and over again. Why should we let it go and just be happy to participate???

I doubt respect is the word. It's pure stubbornness. But hey, if it means we got a place who am I to complain? :)

There's just no chance though, surely the Irish FA know this. Fifa don't budge on this sort of thing, especially as they got what they wanted anyway.

It was a poor decision, but I've seen worse. There's worse every week. I know this was big because of what was at stake but we can't go re-writing the rule book because of it. Refs make mistakes, they're human. Sure we can stomp our feet for a bit, but two weeks later?

There won't be a time limit on when I'll feel any better about this whole thing. I appreciate some people might be bored of it but what can you do, I doubt they'll want to know my feelings while they're enjoying the World Cup next summer.

probably not but that's not a reason to be quiet.

Silence will only continue to give us decisions like these or why not decisions like when Mendes scored agains manure at Old Trafford...etc

Do you think you deserve to go? I know you got beaten by a dodgy goal, but it's not as if you were winning the tie at any point....

Which, imo are part and parcel of the game. One could argue Villa's silence will continue to give us points like Dawson's goal did at the weekend. Or Georgia's silence will continue to allow teams like Ireland to receive dodgy penalties.

What I'm trying to say is that the referee's decision is final, referees are human and mistakes will happen, but that's football.

Would Ireland have still be in with a shout if they didn't get that ridiclously dodgy penalty against that rubbish team?

I can't remember the team or the score, or the points haul to be honest, just that, that particular penalty was one of the most ridiculous I've ever seen.

If there was a ever a replay on the handball basis, then surely the team that got that penalty decision against them could say the same thing, in theory?

I know a replay isn't going to happen, but to let Ireland go to the world cup as a 33rd team, is also a bit, well silly to be honest.

Just wondering really, thats all.

I've never claimed that we've qualified for the World Cup, we haven't. Similarly I don't believe that France have legally qualified. I do believe we were cheated out of a position where we could qualify. In my mind that game became void and yet France have prospered.

We'd still have finished second if you take out that penalty although obviously it's not straight forward to do so.

And I've also covered that decision in previous posts a couple of time, the other angle not shown in the youtube video, referee's view, etc.

And as for silly, well, it's unconventional but the whole mess is silly so I doubt i'll be worried about that if we got a positive decision.

And yes, I know it's still highly unlikely.

Having just heard Slack Bladder talking about the 33rd team idea I'd say it's 100% a no-go. He's living up to his name, pissing himself at the thought of it. ****.

Cheers for that Dougal, couldn't remember if that penalty decision would have caused you to be third place or not.

I think having a 33rd position would be silly. THere have been many teams over the years that have gone on to lose to something unjust, I know I've experienced it with England, and it is horrible.

I just can't see how Fifa could allow Ireland into the tournament, as they lost (all be it in dodgy circumstances).

Well, it won't happen. That **** at FIFA is having a laugh about it now. It was a decision which was dead and buried and he has made public a request by the FAI just to get a few laughs at a press conference. I'm not laughing. The sooner FIFA has a clearout the better.
