Some of us remember that memorable 3-2 FA Cup win over City and a few great years following that. The 80s brought players such as Villa, Perryman, Hoddle, Archibald, to name but a few. Damn, even with David Pleat as our manager we did pretty good.
The 90s started well but ultimately our fortunes changed under Alan Sugar. But in the midst of it all we had moments of magic and a few new players to gain the famed "Spurs Legend" tag such as Sheringham and Klinsmann. And let's not forget Darren "sicknote" Anderton.
In the midst of the decade we also had a bit of controversy, a 12 point deduction, and an FA Cup ban. Thankfully these were successfully appealed in the end. Things got worse, Sheringham went to United (sound familiar?) and along came Christian Gross:bang: Still, in the midst of it all we had Ginola!!
Then came the Noughties and ENIC and the return of Hoddle. Still, things remained annoyingly dull until a certain Mr Santini arrived in 2004. Cue more controversy. Santini went AWOL and Martin Jol took over. With him came two 5th places and a mysterious bout of "food poisoning". Ultimately Jol became a true "Spurs Legend" and therefore was summarily sacked. Ramos came along and so the current chapter in the modern history of Spurs is still being written.
My point to the thread is this....Spurs is Spurs. Ups and downs, highs and lows, with a bit of controversy thrown into the mix. The good times can be fucking amazing and the bad times truly shite. In between we will always get a laugh. Being a Spurs fan is never dull. Can you really imagine being a United fan....no fun, no ups and downs, just win after win....boooring!!
When you support Spurs you are, in my opinion, a true football fan. You stick through the highs and lows and the stupid comments from your United supporting work colleagues whilst always resisting the urge to break their jaw.
Tottenham Hotspur IS Football and Football IS Tottenham Hotspur.
My question is this....Would you really have it any other way? I know I wouldn't. Players and managers come and go but I will always remain loyal because I love my club and wear my Spurs slippers with pride:grin:
