One thing that always occurs to me when managers and the media are highlighting these errors, when the wrong player receives a red card for an offence someone else commits, is why doesn't the player who committed the offence actually own up instead of letting his team mate carry the can and the ref face a bigger shitstorm than necessary.

Yes, the ref will still deserve some criticism, but where's the fucking sportsmanship, integrity and honour of a player standing by while his own team mate gets sent off for his offence ?

In most incidents that I can recall, the player in the wrong almost always tells the ref that they were responsible.

I believe in the cases this season they have, and the refs have chosen not to believe them, I suppose thinking they are trying to protect a better player.

shows a great level of trust between officials and players though...

We should test this out by adding a poll.

Poll Question:
"If you had committed a Red Card offence but the referee mistakenly showed the card to Bus-Conductor, would you...?"

1) own up to the crime
2) allow Bus-Conductor to take the walk of shame
3) Goat

If a player lied to the ref to save his team mate from a second yellow that ref would look a bit of a tit. Without being able to see a replay to confirm if the player is telling the truth he would have to rely on the honesty of the player. What if it's someone like Suarez?

I'd say the ref's might simply ignore all or most of players protestations unless they're backed up by a fourth official or linesman.

If I were not as important to the team as Bus Conductor, I'd own up; but if I were say someone as good as Greaves and BC is Kyle Walker, I'd let him be sent off.:)

It seems you're going off this latest incident and you're right, Dawson does fuck all to help. Previous incidents, they were quite a bit more useful. It doesn't really matter though who the fuck says what, the stubborn **** refs will not listen.

If a player lied to save his team mate from being sent off you'd like to think that the FA would ban both players.

You'd hope so but in the meantime the result of the match would be final and the decision could influence the game. It's just a theory though, thankfully in most cases it will be clear who the offender is. I would like to see the fourth officials and linesmen get more involved in the game though, you often get incidents that the ref misses but everyone else in the ground and watching on TV can see clearly, that's when they need to earn their corn.
