Possibly the worst AM we have been linked with. He is built to lead teams to the brink of relegation. Would 1000% be sold after 1 year and 3 cup games.

For £12m he wouldn't be a bad back-up for Eriksen. We wouldn't sign him if Poch wasn't confident he could get satisfactory fitness and workrate out of him...if Poch isn't confident of that we'll be looking elsewhere.

Mentioned this before in the previous thread for him, I think he is quality. If anyone else at Stoke played at his level this year, they wouldn’t have gone down...

He is unique in his physique and play style I think, he looks rotund and out of shape, but I think that’s merely down to his height (5ft6.5), he has so much power in his legs he can blitz past players, and is difficult to get off the ball!

He has experience playing as both a LW/LAM, a CAM/Number10, and a RW/RAM, and has nearly 100 Premier League games and 60+ National Caps under his belt. For me as well, he has the ability to pick the ball up and do something amazing...a free kick, a 30 yard screamer, a bicycle kick, proper game-winning moments, which for me, barring maybe Eriksen and maybe Kane, we have nobody else who can do that...

Is he the player to take us to the next level? No, I’m not saying he is that at all. But the Transfer Market is full of ludacrous prices, 50m for Arnautovic for example, 50+ mill for a championship teenager...I think £12m could be an astute buy, if we sold N’Koudou and Sissoko, he could be a good squad player. Remember, a few years ago he was one of the most sought after players when he was at Bayern, also has experience playing under Guardiola...

If Poch believes he can get him pressing, working hard, and maintain some consistency, we could do a lot lot worse than Xherdan Shaqiri for £12m

I agree with a lot of that to a certain extent, but he's had opportunities at 2 massive clubs before, and had a pretty rubbish attitude at both (Bayern Munich and Inter Milan).

When he doesn't get playing time he tends to complain to the media, blames everyone but himself, and seems to (even though it seems impossible) get even more out of shape!

Technically he's great, mentality wise think he's all wrong for our squad.

If this is true, it’s surely just Levy doing a Levy.

Buy him for £12m (haggled down to £6m minus add ons), make him look quality, flog him to Wolves for £20m in January.

I agree with that and respect your point, however, he has been at Stoke for 3 years now and is 26, to think when he was at Bayern and Inter, he was a lot younger and less mature than he is now...

At the end of his final season at Bayern he had won 5 league titles in 5 years (3 at Basel, 2 at Bayern) and 13 Major Trophies in total, including a Champions League winners medal (which we have none of in our team)...

As a 22 year old man who has done nothing but win for 5 years, I imagine he just wanted to be out on the pitch whenever he could, and was probably frustrated to be on the bench a lot, and maybe got complacent.

Remember that he was brought in to Bayern to replace the aging Robben and Ribery, however they didn’t dip with age as predicted and Shaqiri found himself on the bench more, I reckon when he signed for Bayern, he was probably told he would be getting more playing time than he actually got.

Having 3 years in the Prem now, at a team that is doing anything but winning major trophies, I think that has probably grizzled him up, made him mentally tougher. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t recall seeing any major media stories this season where he has slagged off the club or players or anything? He rarely seems to be in the media for bad press, seems to be a well rounded professional now...

My main point is that, I don’t think you can get many players of his quality, for this price, at his age, with A) His experience in the Prem, and B) his major background in winning trophies and success.
