He isn't good enough. If he was good enough he would have got people noticing in the media and other clubs would be interested and no-one has.

Just because he has a clause for 12 million doesn't mean we should buy him as it represents good value in the football world today. He is also one lazy bastard! Stoke/Southampton is his level.

Exactly, like Payet did at Wet Spam.

He's 26, experienced in various leagues at the highest level, is Premier League proven, a full international, scores goals, is creative and would add competition to the squad in areas we need...if it's at a knockdown price, I don't see how this is an issue.

Too many would rather sign a relatively unproven kid for twice the money just on name/hype IMO.

Had a look on a Stoke forum and they aren't too upset to see the back of him. Seems he thought he was a bit too big for the club and never really tracked back or worked off the ball. They don't deny his talent, though.

I actually think this could be a decent signing. At Spurs he'd have no choice but to fight for his place and work his arse off. If Poch thinks he can work with him and Shaqiri sees us as his last chance to do something serious with his career, the potential is great.

Then if he's shit, given the absurdity of the market, we could no doubt sell him on for a profit or a very small loss.

If there's value in the transfer....and there is a LOT of that, you can put your house on DL being interested in this transfer.

There are more considerations on buying a player than are they good enough. We will have to just disagree on that point he is a very good player on his day and more than capable when playing to that level of adding something to our team.

The 'Pros' on this one, and there are a fair few, are overwhelmingly outnumbered by the 'Cons'.

Genuinely shocked we are linked with him. I believe Shaqiri is one of the reasons we have slaughtered Stoke the last few years. Pouts all game, waits for the ball (yes he can do some great stuff with it from time to time), doesn't even pretend to be arsed to run around at all without it. Of course, he would HAVE to give a crap to get anywhere close to our team, but I have seen nothing to indicate he has the motor or ability to press at all. Would not touch with 10 foot pole.

Regardless of skill when he can be arsed, he doesn't seem suited to our style of play at all.

I fully expect to see him in a West Ham shirt soon.

Then agitating to leave by Christmas.

Please no, it seems some are just desperate for any signing. I don’t think this signing would be the brave that Poch was talking about, I think it would be the silly Spurs of old.

Some people on this forum have no idea about football and are way too disrespectful of a player like Shakeri would improve us with his vision technical ability and deadballs. Not to mention his experience at £12 million an absolute steal who would add to the squad not saying he is a starter but would give us options.

I agree with that and respect your point, however, he has been at Stoke for 3 years now and is 26, to think when he was at Bayern and Inter, he was a lot younger and less mature than he is now...

At the end of his final season at Bayern he had won 5 league titles in 5 years (3 at Basel, 2 at Bayern) and 13 Major Trophies in total, including a Champions League winners medal (which we have none of in our team)...

As a 22 year old man who has done nothing but win for 5 years, I imagine he just wanted to be out on the pitch whenever he could, and was probably frustrated to be on the bench a lot, and maybe got complacent.

Remember that he was brought in to Bayern to replace the aging Robben and Ribery, however they didn’t dip with age as predicted and Shaqiri found himself on the bench more, I reckon when he signed for Bayern, he was probably told he would be getting more playing time than he actually got.

Having 3 years in the Prem now, at a team that is doing anything but winning major trophies, I think that has probably grizzled him up, made him mentally tougher. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t recall seeing any major media stories this season where he has slagged off the club or players or anything? He rarely seems to be in the media for bad press, seems to be a well rounded professional now...

My main point is that, I don’t think you can get many players of his quality, for this price, at his age, with A) His experience in the Prem, and B) his major background in winning trophies and success.

At last someone talking sense who doesn’t just look at a players body shape and how much he runs around... Don’t remember seeing Messi doing much of the high pressing for Barca

I've always thought when I've seen him on MOTD that he seems decent. But then people say he's a "Match Of The Day player".

But if he looks decent on MOTD, which airs every week, isn't that the same as saying he's decent full stop?

Personally, neither for nor against. He's a good player, but ultimately I'm not totally sure where he fits in our team/with our style of play.

Couldn't give a shit what anyone says really.

If the story / link is true, and it's because Poch likes the lad. Sign him up!

Solid and well considered post mate. I'm not 100% sold on him but some measured arguments here and i can't argue with the logic.

Very much so - hard to know a) what's true thesedays in terms of media speculation and b) where he fits in terms of the priority of signings/choices but if Poch likes the look of him and the deal is doable, i ultimately back Poch.

We've been smashing Stoke home and away for long time before he was there. £12m in pure Moneyball terms its a buy.
