Yedlin: Tottenham transfer acted as a career 'roadblock'

For clarification, here is the original artice that FoxSports took this and spun it from:
http://www.si.com/planet-futbol/201...sa-trinidad-tobago-world-cup-qualifying-usmnt
Here's a quote from that article: "Now that he’s playing in Premier League games at Sunderland, Yedlin said he feels like everything is starting to fall into place. Spurs coaches have kept in touch with him, and he’s looking forward to playing the rest of the season with Sunderland, then returning to Spurs and competing for a spot in the team."

Pretty good hatchet job from Fox Sports to ignore anything positive in the article that they took their piece from. It amazes me that people are paid good money to steal the work of others.

Sadly I think you might be right, Dier & Alli show that if your good enough you get game time & Kane shows that by working at your game & taking the chances you get you can get into the team, so maybe he should blame himself rather than the club.
He wasn't blaming the club though, I don't even think the headline is that inflammatory. I look at it as a statement of fact, if you're not playing football at the club you are at, then obviously it is a roadblock.

I actually think a year at Sunderland will teach him to defend and he already is decent going forward. I think he has higher potential than Trippier and is a few years younger. I expect him to get a chance with us next season unless a decent bid comes in.

At present, Yedlin is not good enough to play for Spurs. The kid has all the pace in the world but lacks a footballer's brain & that's something you earn!

As with all of Poch's signings, they don't get straight into the team.. Son excepted. Yedlin is young and has to learn defensive play, and improve from MLS level of football to Premiership top 5, and get better from there. That's why Jurgen K recommended spurs for him

Agree shit article to make headlines and as usual a somewhat overreaction to this judging by some of the comments.....just what the journalist wanted.
In my opinion Yedlin was a good buy for the money and just need the experience of playing regular games in the Premiership. We loaned him out for this and Sunderland have a full back that plays consistently for them without forking out millions.
A win win for us and them. This lad will develop over time. If not we will have doubled or trebled his resale value.
Exactly. We're good at these types of deals. It's the big bucks ones we're a little hit and miss on. In fact, that's likely a universal thing. Regardless, these canny signings we excel at. Either they prove themselves good enough for the squad or they do well enough on loan to get a good transfer and us a tidy little profit. There's no downside as far I can tell.

I did not read it as a slight on the club. I read it as him realising that he has a lot to learn after making the move to us. In a way it is a sort of compliment. Also it forced him to make a self assessment which should go a long way in removing the road block as he(or the media) puts it.

Yedlin says a lack of playing time at Spurs effectively acted as a "roadblock" in his career.

Read the full article at foxsports

I don't think he will ever play for us again.

I have no idea why we even bought the kid over in the first place, as well as Trippier and Walker already on the books. Yedlin is playing like crap at the moment for Sunderland, but that may be because Sunderland are crap and he's just caught their disease.

Some people said when at the time that we bought him, that it was for commercial reasons.

Trippier wasn't on the books. We bought him in the summer - possibly becasue Yedlin wasn't performing as well as expected in training. Sometimes getting players works out as you hope, sometimes it doesn't. Hindsight is a wonderful thing isn't it?

I stand corrected. Yes, of course, you're right. It's not hindsight we need, it's foresight. Unfortunately, nobody has an eye on the future. Thanks.

Possibly very true. Unfortunately, things just haven't worked out for the kid although he's still young enough to learn his trade but hopefully, for his sake, with a better club than Sunderland.

We bought him because he was young and had great potential. I don't think that's changed but in his second season he needs to start showing some sign that he's adjusting to the English game. For me, Sunderland could be make or break for him if he can roll up his sleeves and get stuck into a relegation dog fight he might show he's got what it takes, but if he doesn't want to know then we should ship him out.

Danny Rose used a loan to secure himself a spot in the squad. No reason why DeAndre there cant do the same. I mean, and this is not me having a god at all - I quite like the cocky little so-an-so - Danny is not exactly a Maldini clone himself.
