Tottenham enter race for Newcastle United star

The Football Transfer Tavern is interested in reports from The Express that Tottenham have been revealed as main contenders for the signature of Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye by Paris Saint-Germain manager Laurent Blanc.
The 27-year-old midfield was earlier linked with a possible move to Old Trafford to join David Moyes at Manchester United but now Spurs have entered the race according to the French boss.
Paris Saint-Germain have also been strongly linked with the former Lille man and Blanc has now confirmed their interest while also admitting that Tottenham are also in the running.
He said of Cabaye: “He is a very good player. I have not changed my mind. I read that Tottenham are also interested.
“Newcastle, Tottenham or Paris – I hope he will be at a big club in September.”
The remarks are likely to annoy Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew who has been critical of Blanc going public with his interest in the French midfielder in the past.
Pardew said: “I don’t think that’s right. He can get on the phone to me or make a bid. I think that’s the right way to do it.
“I think the way it’s come out isn’t perhaps respectful to Yohan. That’s something I want to talk to him about.”
The former Charlton Athletic manager has previously stated that he expects the player, who featured 35 times for the Magpies last season, to remain at St. James’ Park as he looks to cement his place in the France national team ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
