If we play Gerrard it simply has to be in a 3 with more mobile players, look at Euro 2012 with him next to Parker in a CM2, his legs had gone after a full season, 2 years older now and Roy will have to use him wisely, especially in that heat.

I honestly think Gerrard's passing is so bad that he shouldn't be in the team, for some reason, Keown thinks he would get in the germany team because of his great passing yesterday. Which was shocking imo, his passing was poor and Cleverly was passing better than him consistently.

I thought Cleverly was poor too. If that is what we have to pick between then we are fucked.

Thought I'd bump this. I'd seriously ditch Woy before the WC. He will choose past it's like Gerrard/Lampard or even awful players like Milner.

Hart
Walker Cahill Jagielka Baines
Wheelchair Barkley
Walcott Rooney Lallana
Sturridge

Genuinely believe that team could make it to quarters/semis.

I don't like the CB partnership but I'm loving the front 6 and full backs.

Rly pacy, solid enough defensively, and Gerrard needs to be paired with someone more mobile who can both attack and defend imo. His legs are gone

I love Rooney in the no. 10 position so would be delighted to see him there.

Taking my Spurs tinted glasses off, I'd prefer to see Lallana over Townsend, unless he sorts out his decision making. Adam Lallana is having a fantastic season and offers way more technically for me than Andros.

Also I think Gerrard is past it, Liverpool seem to be playing better without him and as much of a **** Wilshere is, he has the potential to be absolutely class.

Townsend plays better for England and if he improves his decision-making before the end of the season, I'd have him over Walcott

No Danny Welbeck is baffling. He's better than Lallana and Townsend. If Milner continues in this run of form he's the only player that would get in over him for me and that's something I thought I'd never say, I never used to rate him but he's undeniably stepped it up.

Please tell me this is your attempt at humour and I'm too tired to recognise it

Foster/Hart
Walker/Johnson Cahill/Jones Jagielka/Smalling Baines/Gibbs
Barry/Carrick Gerrard/Wilshere
Walcott/Chamberlain--Barkley/Morrison--Lallana/Welbeck
Rooney/Sturridge
Those players with a 3rd choice keeper would be the best we could do.

Standby/knocking on the door
Lambert, Lampard, Townsend, Caulker, Henderson, Powell, Carroll, Ward-Prowse, Rodriguez.

..................Hart......................
Walker....xxx.......xxx........Baines
..........Carrick......xxx...............
.....xxxxx...Rooney....Llalana.......
................Sturridge...................

Those should be the certainties. The XXX can comprise of any other player. This lineup focuses on Walker and Baines providing the width with Llalana and the xxxx providing inside width and intelligent running to create space.

Llalana played this role brilliantly against Spurs.

My 23-strong team would be Hart, xxx, xxx; Walker, Johnson; Cahill, Jagielka, Jones, xxxx; Baines, Cole; Gerrard, Carrick, Wilshere, Henderson; Walcott, Llalana, Ox, Townsend; Rooney, Welbeck, Sturridge, Defoe.

I disagree. England needs to build a team and Rooney in the no.10 role doesnt work as the midfielders are good enough and neither is he for a no.10.

I would go as far saying England need to drop Rooney and put him on the bench he isnt the player, people think he is for England. Lampard shouldn't be going FULL STOP! Gerrard again needs to be dropped, I say it again but as said before(maybe in this thread) I rather Henderson over Gerrard.

Beats, I always enjoy your footballing knowledge and it's clear your clued up but I can't believe you don't rate Rooney, even in the hole. For United he pulls the strings when he's there and I've seen him produce some ridiculously nice passes for England when dropping deep - His passing range is so underrated. I know he doesn't perform on the same level for country as club but he is our only world class forward on his day.
