Well guys and girls, it seems like the new owners of Man City think that they can waltz in, spend a billion or so, and create their all-star world 11; much akin to using the game-editor in Championship Manager.

Anyway, what would your world 11 be? Would you pick the 11 best players in the world, or would you go for a more thoughtful approach and pick the best 'team' in the world?

Anyway, since I don't play Champ Man anymore, I'm not entirely clued up on every player in the world, but my midfield and attack would look something like this:

---------------Mascherano----------

---------Fabregas------Xavi---------

Ronaldo----------------------Messi

-----------------Torres-------------

To be honest, I could create 10 teams with different players in each, and they'd still have a shout at winning the league/Champions League. And for that reason alone, the Man City owners are going to find it harder than they think to dominate football.

Anyway, what do you guys and girls think?

I think thats as star-studded as it gets. 8 of them have played in a Champions League final. The other 3 have played in a European Championship final.

Cech: best goalkeeper in the world without question.
Ramos: fantastic going forward and can play comfortably as a centre-back, says it all.
Lahm: best attacking full-back in the world, 2 great feet and made an ordinary German team look like world-beaters.
Ferdinand: Currently the best centre-back in the world and recovers better then anyone.
Terry: Great captain and fighter even if he is a ****!
Essien: Fantastic engine and great at powering ball forward, versatile and great defender.
Gerrard: Most complete midfielder and can share defensive role with Essien successfully.
Messi: One of the two best players in the world.
Ronaldo: The other one.
Kaka: Movement on and off the ball is perfect for an attacking midfielder.
Torres: Tall, quick and strong, can hold the ball up and run into channels, what more could you want? Great goalscorer as well.

Well, Jenas would be in it for starters...:|

I wouldn't know about a dream XI, as they'd never all (none of the above would, for sure), but City could certainly sign a good team to move forward.

In fact, in Richards, SWP, Kompany, Ireland, Jo, and Robinho (and maybe Hart and Dunne) they are well on the way to being able to compete. The rest aren't shoddy either. With a typical hughes determination, application and discipline (plus his simple yet effective brand of 4-4-2), they were always going to be in the mix for a top 6 spot once they got over the threat of Thaksin being in the shit.

Messi........................................Ronaldo

.....................Drogba..........................

Contraversial selection of a few players so ill justify them:

Casillas-not too many arguments-most shots against him in La Liga, fewest goals conceded.
Ramos-Strength, pace and good on the ball-pretty much perfect
Terry-Great in the air and a great leader on the pitch
Puyol-justified his selection with Euro 2008 performances-Terry goes for the first ball, Puyol gets the second one.
Cole-Left footed which IMO gives him the edge over Lahm
Essien-absolute destroyer and can use the ball brilliantly
Iniesta-best passer in the world at the minute and was one of two positives about Barca last season. If you ever see him play live you will understand how good this guy actually is
Lampard-the most successful AMC of all time if you consider the amount of goals he gets-with Essien and Iniesta next to him, he has the freedom to get in the box at will and get all the second balls of Drogba.
Messi-best player in thw world
Ronaldo-second best player in the world
Drogba-best hold up player ive ever seen (last year in the 4-4 he was ridiculous-unplayable when on form)-will win all of the long balls and knock them down for Lampard whilst he has the ability to bring Ronaldo and Messi into the game with intelligent passing and movement.

Surely you have got them the wrong way round?

C Ronaldo scored over 40 goals last year from a wing position how many did Messi score?

Ridiculously attack-biased I know, but if you're gonna have a dream team.....

I'm just imagining Riquelme sitting deep and pulling the strings a la 2006 world cup, as wave after wave of attack surges forward and the attacking midfield trio free-roling it all over the park. :hump:

Thats a ridiculous thing to base your argument on and if you watch both of them in the big games (the best example being the two Man U Barca games) then it is quite clear that Messi stands alone as the best player in the world. Ronaldo is great against Wigan and Bolton but consistently plays poorly against Liverpool Chelsea and Arsenal, whereas Messi has had his best games against the best opposition eg hatrick vs Real Madrid, ripped Chelsea to shreds on three occasions and destroyed Man U last year playing against arguably the best left back in the world in some peoples minds.

Ronaldo scoring 40 goals from the "wing" is the biggest myth I have ever heard.

He may go down on the teamsheet as a right winger, but the position he often takes up on the pitch is that of a striker.

What wingers do you know spend more time in the box trying to get onto the end of crosses then actually providing them themselves (CL final goal, goal vs roma, and pretty much all of them).

Ronaldo is given a free role at united, and ive read it somewhere before, the whole of last season, his general position on the pitch over all the games he had played was the most central and furthest forward of ANY united player (including their so called strikers rooney & tevez).

If he had scored his 40 goals from positions that had developed from him playing on the right, then yeah fair enough, but the fact is, he plays as a striker, and his 40 odd goals of which 90% came from him being inside the box will tell you he is not playing as a winger.

Interesting to see how many assists he got "playing on the wing"...if anyone wants to dig that up.

That aside, 40 goals in one season is still a remarkable achievement, so fair play, even though 10 came from free kicks and penalties.

Take into account every single one of Torres' 30+ goals for pool last season came from open play...

Ronaldo is completely two footed, great in the air, takes free kicks the only thing he cannot do is tackle.

Messi is a truly great player, but he isn't as good as Ronaldo, and it isn't even close imo.

The top 4 players imo are: Ronaldo>Kaka>Messi>Gerrard.
