Liverpool is one of those clubs that I feel like we just match up with poorly. Their fullbacks are just so much better than ours, and their wide attackers would be enough of a hassle without their fullbacks overlapping constantly. We need work rate and counter-attacking ability. It's why I'd start Kane, as he can play that killer ball to release a Son/Moura on the counter. Eriksen hasn't been consistent enough with it lately, and while I wouldn't bench him, I'd likely sacrifice Dele. Such a tough choice for Poch...
I think we actually match up well to Liverpool what we need to do is press better, be clinical, limit mistakes. In terms of game control its fairly even however Liverpool are explosive going forward.

We need to be on it from start to finish.

The biggest conundrum for Poch is how he negates TAA and Robertson. Aside from transition turnovers, they are Liverpool’s most creative players.

I hope we don’t play with a midfield diamond. I feel that gives far too much space fo the fullbacks.

When you look at it like that you're right, but the reality is that when we play them, particularly at Anfield strangely enough, the games are very tight. In fact, we have been the better side for the past 2 visits to Anfield.

In a one off game at a neutral ground we are more than a match for them.

We are going to win anyway, no doubt at all in my mind.

Seriously, when Dele is available has Poch ever not picked him in any big game?

Dele will absolutely start.
@Mr Pink you are correct, but you should know by now that I pick the team that I would want to see. Whether or not it conforms to public opinion is another matter. Plus the title of the thread reads " Your line up for final", not Poch's!

Negating their threat on the wing and the channels just inside the wing is key. Their danger men are the full backs (wingers when in possession) and the wing forwards (inside left and right channels, Mane and Salah). How do we turn the tables on that system or those players individually? In many ways, it's simply a question of performance on the day, because if we out-work them and play smart, aggressive footy, we can win.

But you have to pick a strategy and team.

So it seems to me that 451 is the way to go (which isn't too dissimilar to 4231), built to outnumber them in midfield, play on the break if needed or pressing effectively as long as we have a foothold in the game.

So for me, assuming fitness across the board
Lloris
Trippier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose
Moura, Sissoko, Winks, Eriksen, Son
Kane

Definitely. We need to play 4312 imo:

Lloris
Trippier Toby Verts Rose
Winks
Sissoko Eriksen
Kane
Lucas Son
Alli to come on for Kane when he can't run any more!
Diasgree. This will give there FB so much space. You done need to change the team just the formation, move Lucas and Son wide and Kane p top.

Can't believe some would leave out Son. Sure he's had a couple of under par games but his pace with Lucas's is such a weapon.

His contribution against City as well, performing in those huge games.

Nah, he starts definitely.

This. If anyone should be dropped for Moira it's Dele. Son has been far more useful than him this season. If we're starting with Kane, which I'm sure we will regardless of whether he's got or not, then I'd go with:

Lloris
Trippier Toby Jan Rose
Sissoko Winks
Moura Eriksen Son
Kane

Ideally I'd start with Kane I'm the bench though if he's only half fit.

I would be willing to drop Son. He's been poor recently.

I agree, kinda, because I think any player having the opportunity to play in CL final, would immediately sharpen up and (hopefully) play their best game

Neither Kane nor Winks are match fit as we write so I rather have match-fit players starting in a CL final as it takes time to get match fit even after a player is seen fit enough to play. And Liverpool will put the pressure on from the very go!
Neither of them were even in the squad last week end and they're both still in doubt for the CL game.
Anyway, should Pochettino find them fit then I'd support his decision of course.

I wouldn’t start Kane or Winks but how good could they be coming off the bench when/if required?

Lloris
Trippier Toby Jan Rose
Sissoko Wanyama
Moura Alli Eriksen
Son

Southgate just did his press conference and said Spurs are optimistic Winks will be fit for the final. He didn't sound so positive on Kane, I must say.

What if we just go toe to toe and turn it into attack v attack... our attack is alright, theyre attack is alright... just attack and see what happens. Look at what we did v Ajax, only when we pressured them serious pressure did we get success

No regrets - attack the hell out of them

Is Sissoko disciplined enough to play as a holding midfielder against Liverpool?
Think I'd go

Lloris
Aurier-Toby-Jan-Rose
Dier-Sissoko
Lucas-Eriksen-Alli
Kane
I feel bad for dropping Son, but someone's got to give, and Moura has proven that he truly is a man for the big occasions.

Then again, Son scored 3 against Man City in the QF (and the 1st against Dortmund). Perhaps they should both start.

If Kane and Winks are fit, then play a solid 4-3-3 with the 3 front men playing off each other (like liverpool's front 3) rather than a rigid top man with 2 flanking him

.....................Lloris........................
Trips.......Toby....Verts.........Rose
.............Winks.....Sissoko.............
...................Eriksen.......................
......Moura....Kane.....Son.............

Alli misses out, but we cant leave out anyone else if Winks is fit

If Kane and Winks arent fit, then a 4-1-3-2

.....................Lloris........................
Trips.......Toby....Verts.........Rose
..................Wanyama...................
......Sissoko.....Alli......Eriksen......
............Moura.......Son.................

Disagree. Their full backs will be occupied by Lucas and Son running into the channels. One down the channel, one centrally each time, Kane winning the ball near the centre circle and playing them in. They can start centrally, then every counter attack split or one stay central, with Kane arriving late on the edge of the box for the pull back and shot. Kane has the strength and aerial ability to win and hold up or release the ball over the top, down the channels or to bring it fwd. Sissoko and Eriksen (or Alli) can track back and support our full backs. Kane won't be fit enough to play further fwd imo.

There was a report today that Liverpool are trying to schedule a friendly with AZ in Madrid, but AZ has turned down the request. My guess is that we're trying to do the same with some decent competition. Everyone, even those that played last weekend, will be a bit rusty.

When Diego Costa returned to the CL final after an injury and played poorly it was because he wasn't fully fit. He was injured just 2 weeks before the final. I don't think it was about game time, rather, he wasn't ready to come back.

On May 8th, Kane said, ""I started straight line running this week and I have to start training even harder to prove myself to the gaffer." Therefore I think he may be moving toward regular training this week. His last injury kept him out for 6 weeks, so June 1st is just about 7 and a half weeks since this most recent injury. Regardless, I'm sure Pochettino will remain tight lipped until the last moment.

Aurier needs games to get sharp though, he must be really rusty.
can't believe I'm saying it, but I'd have trippier over him in the final.

Shame we can't sign a RB before the final

Have to agree. Their full backs will come at us and create so mant goal scoring opportunities for them.
