Fun thread. Not very realistic, but I'm interested to see how the good people of SC rate our players.

Here's the plan. You're given a pretend £20m to spend on the team. Money can also be generated from player sales, which can also be used to strengthen the team. I want you to list me what your squad would be if you could buy and sell players at your will. If you want to keep it as it is, bringing in only 1 or 2 players, that's cool. If you feel the need to sell our entire squad and start again, go for it! It's not hugely realistic, just a bit of fun.

OK, so I'll start off. I'd go with 2 players for every position (for the first team squad) in a 4-5-1.

Buy

Boruc (Celtic) £5m
Finnan (Liverpool) £3.25m
Nelson (Blackburn) £4.5m
Tugay (Blackburn) £500,000
Appiah (Fenerbahce) £6m
Riquelme (Villareal) £6m
Bentley (Blackburn) £11m
Queresma (Porto) £18m

£54m

Sell

Robinson - £4m
Chimbonda - £8m
Zokora - £3m
Jenas - £7m
Ghaly - £2m
Malbranque - £3.5m
Defoe - £10m

£38m

Loan out

Alnwick
Ifil
Assou-Ekotto
Dawson
O'Hara
Barnard

Cerny

Finnan
Stalteri

CM

Appiah
Boatang

AM

Riquelme
Taarabt

RW

Bentley

ST

Bent

Keane

I'd also be cheeky and keep Tainio (who can cover all central midfield positions). Also keeping 3 strikers, as Keano can cover the wing positions too if need be.

I know some of you will be quite confused by my signing of half the Blackburn team, and loaning out Dawson, but I see the moves as the best options of all involved right now.

One slight snag there, Christophe. Thanks to Setanta, I can now watch the SPL if I have absolutely nothing better to do, and I reckon Boruc would fetch £10m-£15m (especially considering that Gordon cost £9m). Hard to judge given that he's keeping against opposition that's largely Championship standard, but I'll stick my neck out and say that after Cech he's the best keeper in Britain at the moment.

I did forget Ledley, but I also forgot Berba to start with  Ho hum

SS57, I think Boruc is a far better goalie than Gordon, but when Gordon was being linked £10m moved to various clubs in the summer, Boruc was being linked with Arsenal for £5m. Maybe his age, less media hype, I'm not sure. But what I know is that Boruc is class, and his mistakes against Hibs last week really did suprise me. In true Boruc fashion though, he saved Celtic's ass his next game :)

Love this vid :hump:

I'd seriously consider buying Mikel too. Might need to sell Chimbo to fund that deal though; thereby playing Thuram at RB...

I don't think Chelsea would let us have Mikel to be honest Mike. Seems to be playing an awful lot at the moment, and you know the trouble they went to to sign him!

Some bizarre guessing of prices there by both 'predictors' so far. Boruc for only £5m? Getting £10m for Defoe? £3m for Stalteri and Tainio? £4m for Routledge? In your dreams!

And sending Dawson out on loan while buying Nelson? Jesus wept Chris.

to be honest, after this Video ..
Boruk looks like the best option and excellent goalkeeper ..
I would like DC & MJ are looking at him .. even for £10-12m !
but it should be important to know his commincations with his defenders as we are Tottenham .. we have shocking defending :bang:

My team .. I would like to go for 22 first team players ( selling a lot of players and 3 Key signings plus useful one ) :
'

Sell
Robinson - £5m
Stalteri - £1m
Gardner - £2m
Lee - £1.5m
Zokora - £5m
Ghaly - £2m
Malbranque - £3.5m
Routledge - £3m

( Rocha - Tainio - Defoe to stay )
23m

Buy?
Boruc ( Celtic ) - £10m
Luke Young OR Finnan ( Middlesbrough/Liverpool ) - £3.5m
Richards ( Man City ) - £15m
Quaresma (Porto) £16m

£34.5m

Boruk
Finnan/Young - Richards - Dawson - Bale
Lennon - Kaboul - Huddlestone - Quaresma
Keane - Berbatov

Cerny
Chimbonda - Rocha - King (unfit) - Ekotto
Taarabt - Jenas - Tainio - Boateng

Just a few problems with the above.

1) Why would Liverpool sell Finnan for £3.5m. One of the most played players in the last few years for them. This value is delusional.

2) Bentley for 11m. A player breaking into the full national set up who is English, for £11m..... Nah

3) Queresma. Why the hell would he want to come to Spurs, you're deluded. At the moment, I'd say the same for Riquelme!

The CBs you've listed is also massively weak. But then you seem to have forgotten that Dawson and King are at the club

Not to be the negative one, but this is pure stupidity. I will comment on the squad though:

GK: I've always been a fan of Robinson, but I can say I'm a believer anymore. I think we need a new one, if he doesnt get his confidence back soon. I would prefer Cerny in goal vs. Pool.

Defense: Real fan of Chimbonda - Dawson (King) - Kaboul - Bale (Lee) The only reason we would need new players is if Ledders is gone for good. Also believe we've got some good youngsters coming through, like Dervitte.

CM: Mediocre, I'm sorry to say. We have plenty of good players, but really need a DM general. Hudd-Jenas-Zokora willl never be that player methinks. All of these and Malbranque (possibly also Taarabt/Prince can play the offensive role, I think we're covered there)

Wingers: Lennon
We need a left winger

Strikers: Four strikers is too many. Three of those we have and a couple of youngsters with a realistic chance of getting to play some games would be ideal.

To sum it up. Get in a midfield general, a LW and get rid of one of the strikers. And it also looks like a new keeper is needed (Sorry Robbo)...

Boruc in my mind with with about £10m, but as I said earlier, his price seems to be about £5m according to the media. Anyway, I had £4m left over, so I'd be more than happy to see £9m spunked on Boruc :)

Nelson is a far better CB than Dawson at the moment. I might be in the minority, but what's new :) Daws is deff worth keeping at the club long term though, but I'd like to see him loaned to a Pompy or someone like that. Kaboul would also come on far better next to Nelson than he would next to Daws.

1) Finnan is no longer guarenteed a place in the Liverpool team because of the likes of Arbeloa. He's 31 now, so I think £3.5m is a reasonable price.

2) £11m not enough? How much do you think I'd take?

3) I don't think Queresma is deffinetly out of our reach. Simao joined Athletico this summer. He's about the same as Queresma on reputation, and Althetico are hardly a superpower in Spain are they? Riquelme isn't the same force as he was a few years ago, and if reports are to be believed then he would jump at the chance to sample the EPL.

4) No they're not. Nelson is an improvement on Dawson, King is still at the club (but is more of a bonus player at the moment), and if you read it all, you'd realise that I said we should loan Daws out.

Boruc is't having the best of seasons for Celtic, anyone see the hibs game?
He had A bad game. How many players have ever had a full season where they've not made a mistake all season?

yeah I did see it and not only that I have a hibs fan in the office next door to me. :-|

I remembered Scott Brown, don't worry :) I do agree with what you said last time though about his price being too high. He's at the stage where you'd have to pay far more than what he's worth to get him.

And no I'm not a Celtic fan
