I would have thought the last 18 months were more critical - building the stadium, signing players to extended contracts, getting CL qualification. We are doing very well thank you! Let’s chat in 8 months then shall we ??
Yes and no- arguably after Kane our two best players (Eriksen and Toby) haven’t extended their contracts. And CL qualification is only really worth it if it benefits the squad with revenue to invest in further signings, otherwise it’s just another game of football

In think you've totally missed the point of my original post. I talked about how proud I am of the club, what a great job (on the whole) Levy has done, and how well we have done on the pitch over the last few years, due to having the best manager and team of my lifetime. We have put ourselves in a great position, however it is still potentially a perilous one. Going out of two very winnable cups in a week is one thing but missing out on top 4 (which by the way I don't think we will) because of not investing in an injury ravaged squad with already gaping holes in certain positions could be catastrophic. We need to be seen as champions league regulars by potential signings, especially as we don't pay the wages of our competitors, the new stadium needs a sponsor and all potential sponsors will want us playing in the CL, our manager is going to be coverted by United and probably Madrid and our chief playmaker and best centre back (ok maybe second best) are entering the last year of their contacts. If we have any chance of holding on to them we must finish top 4 and show them we are investing in the club and they can win things here.

If I was Levy I would have missing out on top 4 on the top of my risk register and the mitigating factors to that have to be making sure the squad is strong enough heading into the stretch. By the sounds of the ITK coming out in recent days this seems like it's the case and it is poch who is vetoing players he doesn't feel are good enough.

Weather the last 18 months were more important than the next 8 is beside the point. The next 8 months are huge, and if you don't think they are you are being short sighted.

Also really don't get this consistent line from people about how we are doing very well you can't be upset and worried and we haven't had it this good for years so stop complaining etc. It is possible to be very proud of the work we have done on and off the pitch the last 4 years but still want more. We cannot rest on out laurels. We need to keep evolving and progressing else we will fall behind or be caught. I want the relative success that we have had under poch to continue, but I want it to be better. This group of players and this manager have the potential and opportunity to do something special with just a few pieces of the puzzle to be slotted in, and in my opinion there's nothing wrong with wanting that when it is clearly so close, we've gone long enough without it. 'It is better to fail aiming high than to succeed aiming low. And we of Spurs have set our sights very high, so high in fact that even failure will have in it an echo of glory.'

But we are evolving and progressing. Continuously. Compare us to even 3 years ago. You and others don’t see the bleeding obvious. What is so important about the next 8 months? If we don’t sign someone it all falls apart? We self implode? ?

So you really think we can remain competitive? Poch can squeeze yet another 5% out of this squad? if we do not buy anybody this summer? This squad has done magnificently but is on the verge of starting to break up, Dembele has gone and we go into the summer with Toby available for £25M and Eriksen with only 12 months left on his contract! Now can you see what some of us are worried about???? because these are bloody obvious genuine concerns to me!

We are where we are because we made the correct signings and got the right manager. Not backing him will mean that will fall off. No one is saying we will self implode but standing still is going backwards. Manager needs to be backed with quality now.

Could be worse, could have allowed a rival to be stengthened. As it is we've only weakened ourselves.

If its only a loan. We jump in, in the Summer. Not the end of the world is it ?

Certainly isn't. This window is to be forgotten and next summer where the real work needs to be done to actually strengthen the first team starters.

If only I were confident in the club securing multiple key transfers next window...

Well if the deal for Leicester is loan without obligation to buy, got to hope GKN tears it up at Monaco.

Meanwhile, Tielemans adapts to prem and recaptures form of old.

Come summer, Monaco want GKN, and Tielemans fancies Spurs and their shiny new stadium.
