I realise that (hence my comment about being slightly frustrated) but given our lack of midfield options it would have made sense to look to improve this even if it would have been just for the remainder of this season. The kid starts for an all star Belgium team on a regular basis so was hardly a massive risk.

No offence to you, but that is a stupid fkn stance for the club to take.

Getting a good player in , in a position where we were massively light was only going to be a positive thing, whether we had an option to buy or not.

Who cares if we helped Monaco along the way, we would have won more points.

Never understood that thinking, if you can improve the team, even temporarily, you do it. Could have been the difference between CL qualification and Europa.

We made the CL by a point and the final by a minute or so. Too fine a margin.

We should have loaned this guy, and (if we’re interested now) Gomes to bolster the squad.

We’re now less likely than we would have been to get them

What about the difference between CL finalists and CL winners?

Our season isn’t over yet.

any player joining in January would of wanted to be included in the CL squad, to of done that we required either a HG or buy a CDM to replace Wanyama as with his fitness issues was the only 1 we could of dropped

edit: what people don't understand also is he flopped in France, just say he had flopped in the PL covering a position of Eriksen, Winks or Sissoko which one of those would you of dropped in January for a player that wasn't willing to put the graft in playing for Monaco. he looked very good for Anderlect was the reason he was poor in Monaco due to the bright lights? perhaps London isn't the best option. yet I think he looks a very good player

Is that correct, I thought selling Dembele freed up a spot in the CL squad?

no Poch promised Foyth as he had missed out for 2 seasons, and if rumours of Toby going are true Foyth might be called on, didn't need him wanting out because of a broken promise

And we kept a 3rd non-HG goalie occupying a spot even though the rules allow you to add an emergency goalie. We had room for another non-HG player if we were willing not to be really dumb.

Don't get him started on the HG goalie...

I do see your point, and if the club felt 1 of the youth could fill that spot they might of, but all 3 of our CL goalkeepers played because of injury or suspension in the CL, would you really want to risk a kid in goal if the same happened

He could've been the difference between CL qualification and Europa, yet we achieved CL qualification without him, without helping Monaco & without forking out the millions for a loan fee and the millions in wages.

Maybe not such a stupid fucking stance for the club to take after all?

We're all geniuses with hindsight.

I still believe the club policy is completely flawed and overly simplistic.

Not sure about the extent of your 2nd sentence, but it is amazing to me how many people are trying to make the case that just because we got the result we wanted must therefore mean our strategy was 100% correct.

We got the result we wanted largely in spite of our strategy, not because of it. We were very very fortunate Arsenal and ManUtd were absolute garbage in the last two months. We were very fortunate Pep decided to play without his best player for half of the QF and without one of his scariest attackers for 90% of it. We were fortunate that Ziyech hit the post twice and that that last ball carromed perfectly to Dele off De Ligt’s leg.

If my retirement plan is to buy a lottery ticket every week, and I luck into winning it, it doesn’t mean that was a sound retirement strategy all along.

Now, that all being said, let’s go get Tielemans.

I like him, a big a step up from winks[/QUOT

Both very suited to playing in a three though. I think Winks’ improvement over the last two years is pretty remarkable and I actually think he is really important to us. BUT these injuries are starting to stack up ...

Different types of players but if I had a straight choice between the 2 I would go for winks every time, he is very good at what he does
I like Winks but Tielemans is technically better and can play all around the midfield I actually think they could complement each other.

Why on Earth would you want a midfielder who could provide goals and assists? Are you mad?

How is Tielemans technically better than Winks?

Tielemans is a better attacking player than winks but it does not mean he is better or has a better technique.
It amazes me how many football supporters can’t understand the roles players play in the side ie winks’s assist and goal scoring record compared to tielemans will not stack up because they play different roles for their sides

You could apply your same logic to the opposite view point.

Winks is one of our own and all that but I don`t care how many stars you get from fellow fans on SC, by any measure Tielemans has better technique than Winks... the kid is a star I thought that since before he went to Monaco..

I will concede Winks runs around more and is possibly more aggressive but that`s not technique
