Tielemans is a better attacking player than winks but it does not mean he is better or has a better technique.
It amazes me how many football supporters can’t understand the roles players play in the side ie winks’s assist and goal scoring record compared to tielemans will not stack up because they play different roles for their sides
Well technically speaking, most people would consider scoring & assisting goals to be the most difficult part of the game. Hence the player more likely to do so in the same position would likely be a better technical player..

And for everyone saying they play different roles look where he lines up in the majority of these clips. Right next to a defensive midfielder.

(I DON'T HATE HARRY WINKS)

I think someone needs to have a word with Poch... How can he not rate this Kid.. Young can be moulded and he will only get better.

For all the success we've had under Poch I must doubt his ability on player identification if he isn't interested in Tielemans.....

His development level and potential reminds me of Eriksen when we signed him 6/7yrs ago.

I don`t think Poch has identified any player I think Levy bought Lucas...

Sorry i know i must restrain myself from answering in threads however this needs to be put right. Steve Hitchen our chief scout knows plenty about European players and knew about what was happening with Moura, identified him and Poch gave his approval. Then Daniel does the deal. No player comes in unless Poch gives his approval is how it works. Sometimes its not always about the ability of the incoming player rather than our ability in mid season to take on a player and put in huge effort to train them hard to get him up to speed of what we require when we already have similar players in the squad. Then you have a bloated squad and potentially more upset players that they are not playing which unsettles the squad dynamic.

Thanks for clarifying JJ... Your input in the background work is always valued...

Now you've made me dream again that there is a chance however minute that we can compete for Tielemans.

AFAIK Poch didn’t want the deal because it was loan only with no option to buy? But I may have missed some other ITK stating he doesn’t rate him ability wise too.

Maybe Tielemans on a permanent deal as opposed to a loan and with pre-season to get up to speed is attractive to Poch after all. A ray of hope maybe.

No that was a supposition by a member or 2 as to why we or Poch were not interested... That then became an accepted theory it seems. JJ originally stated Poch was not interested in him.

I think it's more plausible what JJ aludes to, as in getting a player up to speed with oir demanding training regiment mid way through the season or having players in that area who already have the position covered etc.

Wanted this boy at Spurs from his time at Anderlecht. I was disappointed when he went to Monaco and it was for like £ £19-21 million at the time. I wondered then why we hadnt tried for him.
I want competition for places in CM... Other teams do just fine with squad harmony etc. Look at the dippers as an example.

Its the difference between being also rans and actually winning something. It will push Sissoko/Winks/ Dier/ Skipp even harder to improve ans not just being assured of a starting position.

I'm not convinced by this player, I was interested in seeing how he did at Leicester this year but he never really caught my attention so my position hasn't changed and I am not sure he's the one for Poch.

JJ, please don't ever apologise for posting anywhere on this forum.

Whenever I'm scrolling through a thread and I see Danny Glovers face, I get a little tingle in the groinal region.

Then you can't have watched them. He was absolute quality for them.

Winks is one of our own and all that but I don`t care how many stars you get from fellow fans on SC, by any measure Tielemans has better technique than Winks... the kid is a star I thought that since before he went to Monaco..

I will concede Winks runs around more and is possibly more aggressive but that`s not technique

As I said they are different types of players. Winks plays deeper and plays quick short passes and starts attacks. Tielemans from what I’ve seen is more of an attacking creator (correct me if I’m wrong as I’ve only seen him play for Leicester).
Technique is not just passing and shooting. Winks has great technique on the ball, receiving it tight space shielding and finding a pass.
As I said not against us signing tielemans as he has been very good in his short spell for Leicester and there is room for him and winks in the same team imo

I admit I haven't watched them much so I am happy to be proved wrong but as I say he hasn't convinced me any time I've seen him.

Not sure how much importance we should pay this but according to Wikipedia:=
"France football named Tielemans in their lists of the biggest flops of the first half of the season and the season overall".

All JJ said was "Manager doesn't want". He doesn't say that he didn't rate him, he wasn't the right fit for the club, no details at all.
So getting him in on short term loan with a risk that he would need to get upto speed, with no option to buy at the end of it.... perhaps it was that whole situation that Poch didn't want. Who's to say that he wouldn't be interested in having him on a permanent deal.

Nah JJ said recently “Poch doesn’t rate Tielemans or Maddison”
