Fair enough with Bale but I don't think Walcott is all that fantastic.

unfortunately I too thought he was just a shit aaron lennon originally, but now he is being played more as a striker I think he is showing just how good he is, and can become baring in mind he is only 23 years old and has 10 goals and 7 assists in the league alone already

for comparison Defoe also has 10 goals but only 1 assist, bale 9 goals and 1 assist

unfortunately the gooner scum is good, and his composure and finishing in front of goal now is looking pretty impressive

I think that this statement is fueled by motivated bias - unfortunately I think Utd's scouts know their stuff
Maybe, maybe not. Bebe, Gabriel Obertan, David Bellion... All players they've bought in (2 of them recently) for a wide forward/wing spot that have been abject failures. I'll admit to having only seen Zaha once (live for England U21s v Serbia) but I'll tell you now - Townsend did more in 25 mins than he did in 90. Perhaps Zaha has a higher potential ceiling than Townsend, but I can't see it being that much higher and I'd rather bring through one of our own.

Unfortunately they all add up to less than a Bentley. I think Bebe 7m, Obertan 3m and Bellion 4m, but im sure they recouped a fair chunk of Obertan and Bellion's transfer fees back.

It's not motivated by anything, I don't have an agenda against Man Utd and I was never expecting us to sign him so its not like I have any bitterness against them or the fact they signed Zaha.....if anything I am glad they got him instead of Arsenal

I'm sure Utd's scouts do know their stuff indeed, this however does not mean they will get every decision right.....does it?

Their scouts after all decided not to beat us to Bale (in as far as had they advised Sir Alex he was going to be worth it I am sure Man U could have easily beat us to his signing)

They also determined Veron would transfer his form to the EPL, Djemba Djemba would be a success same for Kleberson
What I am trying to highlight is if you study it there are many examples of Man U scouts getting things wrong whether it be buying someone they shouldn't or not buying someone they should so the fact Man U have signed him does not automatically mean he will be a success

It's just my opinion, I am not an expert scout and I haven't even seen THAT much of him so my opinion doesn't have to be held in high regard by you or anyone else.......but this is a football forum designed for fans to share and debate their own opinions and my personal one is he will prove to be somewhat over hyped and will not meet the expectations in the way Ashley Young hasn't really performed like he would have been expected (despite still being a decent player)

I dunno what reason you have to assume I have some bias agenda against Man U or the player himself?!? as an English football supporter I hope he does go on to be great for club and country, I just don't think he will.

Umm £15m they are saying. I've watched him quite a bit and think he is a gamble but Man U. can afford to kiss some frogs.

Because you are a Spurs fan lol... Just like all of us. The fact that Utd paid mega money for this young kid, who has done excellently in the Championship would suggest that this guy's lowest level will be an Ashley Young standard. I hope he does great for country, I hope he does crap for club, but I think it is pretty evident he is a massive talent.

They had the money and did the deal. A wonderful player who can potentially become a world class winger / striker.

I've watched him a lot since my move to S London and honestly, he is absolute quality, from close control to passing to his understanding of the game. He does have inconsistency, but that comes with experience and time.

I would have loved for us to have got him, he would have been a suitable replacement for either winger when they eventually leave / need competition.

G'luck to him, look forward to seeing him play in the Prem in the next few years.

Southampton rejected a bid from Utd before we signed him. They were definitely after him.

Does this mean that "The American" is now SC's top ITK

Man U also paid massive money for Young who was more proven and established yet he still didn't (or hasn't) really live up to expectations, so what's to suggest they will be more right with Zaha?

Many people have looked great in the Championship but not lived up to expectations on the bigger stage, there's a lot of hype surrounding him granted and he may will justify this but I am not so sure it is as obvious as you are suggesting and I certainly don't agree that the fact Man U have scouted and bid for him can be used as some kind of empirical evidence that he will be the next big thing

After all as mentioned by myself an several others in this thread there are numerous examples of players Man U have bought that have not been as amazing as expected.

Southampton rejected a bid from Utd before we signed him. They were definitely after him.

Yes, that's pretty much my point

They were in for him but their scouting team or whoever makes the decisions determined he was not worth making a bid they would accept

They didn't value his potential as highly as we did, hence us getting him while their bid was rejected (don't tell me we blew man u out of the water financially) and this surely has to be considered a pretty major error on their behalf

Just highlighting that Man U, their scouts and decision makers are capable of making errors and therefore it is not inconceivable that they could have made an error in the judgement of Zaha and he is not guaranteed to be amazing.

I'm ultimately disagreeing with the statement that he is automatically going to be amazing because Man U have scouted and signed him, and to a lesser extent the suggestion that I am only saying I think he is over hyped and unlikely to exceed Ashley Young because I have some anti Man U bias agenda which is simply not the case

If he hadn't shagged Moyes' daughter I expect he'd have actually gotten some playing time, given Man United's wide players have been pretty wretched bar Januzaj.
