and then think again.

And no, Tainio doesn't keep it simple. Still got our first cup game against the Chavs last season recorded somewhere? If so, watch it again (if you can bear it) and see how many times he needlessly gives the ball away in the second half.

I don't even really know what you're trying to show me. I can't really be bothered to find his stats. But I'm assuming you've got statistics showing that what I've said isn't true. Yet, that doesn't really tell us the whole story. It doesn't show what part of the field he's giving the ball away in, it doesn't show how long the passes were, or in which direction. But from having watched Zokora, I still stick by my points.

And I'm not for irrationally slating a player, I'll admit he had a decent game today, but there are also some people who irrationaly defend a player and that's equally pointless to be honest.

Well, look and see.

No, stats don't tell the whole story, but they are a useful reality check against what what we think we see. Zoko has recently given away a few free kicks in dangerous positions, so they're fresh in the memory; the point is, unless you have stats which show you the position in which every player has conceded a free kick (or a perfect photographic memory) you can't say with any certainty whatsoever that Zokora has been more or less guilty of giving them away in poential scoring positions than anyone else. What you can say is that he concedes fewer than most.

Same with the passing. He's very accurate at short range. You could also point out that the weighting of his passes isn't too great, and that many go sideways or backwards.

Basically, I wouldn't disagree with you. One swallow doesn't make a summer, and all that. On the whole, although he hasn't been shit, he hasn't really lived up to expectations, and I think I've made my misgivings pretty clear in the past. But he does seem to have upped his game of late, and, if it's taken him altogether longer to start looking like the player we thought we'd signed than I would have hoped, I'm encouraged.

Teemu and Zokora are different players, and are good against different teams. Tainio is a worse short passer then Zokora, but Tainio gets stuck in a little more. Teemu is better against the "silky" teams. and Zokora is good against everybody else!

Ramos appears to be using Zokora as much the deeper, holding midfielder of late, allowing Thudd or Jenas to roam free. This is how I expected Jol to play him, as he was touted as a defensive midfield general, but he never really did. For one reason or another he never thrived in Jol's system and never had a clearly defined role.

Now he appears to be playing with more discapline. I still don't fancy him much as a CB, but he could make a good screener in midfield as Hudd and Jenas continue to improve their allround game.

Errr...

he's good at anything that doesn't involve any actual football talent. As in he runs around a lot, gets in the way something, and can break up play ok. But to be honest, other than his athleticism, he isn't better than any of our other midfield options. His passing is average, his shooting is woeful, his tackling can be good but he gives away too many free kicks. Tainio, who I think is more efficient, lacks Zokora's pace but is in my opinion much better at breaking up play, less likely to give away silly fouls, and although his passing isn't phenomenal, he keeps it simple and gives the ball to our more attacking players. And he doesn't always try, and fail, to shoot.

So one minute you're suggesting the stats that back up Zokora don't show which direction he's passing in, then you suggest TT is better because he plays it simple?

I'm confused.

And I think suggesting Zokora "always" tries to shoot is somewhat irrational.

I ain't even gonna read the rest of this thread.

I read the first two posts and you two no-names that kicked this off can go and F+++ yourselves.

Leave our sodding players alone and support one of those top four teams you'd love Spurs to be like so much.

I hope somewhere in this thread you ate your words after todays performance.

But, in case you didn't, lets try and hook up for a drink before a match sometime and I'll shove em down your neck.

(Am I about to get banned for personal abuse?.......maybe so....... but if anybody think of pressing a button on me just remember who started this of. I'm sick of the constant slating on this site and I will soon refuse to be a part of it if it carries on.)

Zokora had a good game today.

His main problem seems to be that he's quite good at a lot of things, but not great at any of them. Which means that he always looks both useful and a liability.

He covers a lot of ground but his positional sense isn't always great.
He tackles a lot but tends to give away a lot of free-kicks.
He's great running with the ball at his feet but mostly fails to pass to a team-mate at the end of it.
He can wallop the ball but can't keep it on target.

The reason he's such a divisive player (for fans) is because he's clearly not totally rubbish. But he's never really good enough, particularly compared with other defensive midfielders in the Premiership. I always think that if the coach could only find his perfect position, he'd be great.

Pretty much sums it up. Looks like Viera one minute and Jason Dozzell the next. I really thought he'd keep improving but I think this is as good as it gets. It's not all bad. On his day he can have a great impact on a game but I don't think he's the DM partner of Jenas or Hudd week in week out

Mabye give him next season then decide as until we get into CL I don't see too many better in his position that we could get hold of. If he played with someone like Tiago instead of Jenas we'd probably rave about how important Zokora is to our team.

if we have any aspirations to beat PSV he must not start.
Why, is he packed with explosives? Is he a double agent? Is he actually The Hooded Claw from Penelope Pistop??

No. No, can't be that last one, that turned out to be Sylvester Sneakly, or whatever his name was... her butler.

Oooh, ooh!! It's cos of his Dutch ancestory?
