Although the outcome of that is bad, i don't think that the tackle was too terrible in fairness to him. He's clearly going for the ball, you see tackles like that weekly in the PL, just 99% of them don't result in anything as bad as what happened here.

I suspect it reflects their society as a whole, don't forget when we began bringing in black players to our own league, in the seventies they were our own, they were English, they were us, now I don't know what the black population of St Petersburg is but I'd guess it's not high so it'll take some changing I reckon.

Not many from when I was there.
Another very important thing to factor in is how isolated Russia is from the Western world. Despite a burgeoning middle-class they don't get to travel very much.
I lived in Moscow for 2 years and the difference in culture is huge. Bigger than from my time in Asia.
Russia is a country that doesn't do a lot of change.
As people of different ethnic groups in Britain became 2nd and 3rd generation Brits there was always going to be some change in racial views and practices over time. Same can't be said for Russia.
