Didier Zokora insists Tottenham are a top four club, despite Sunday's 4-0 humbling at home by Manchester United.

The midfielder admits lapses in concentration have cost Martin Jol's team dearly but says they can make a late push.

Ivory Coast star Zokora said: "It's going to be hard to grab fourth but we still believe in it. It's crucial to always believe, especially since we still have many matches left.

"We have to gain confidence and ensure that it's reflected in our results.

"We lacked concentration against Manchester United and that's why we lost 4-0."

I wish he had as much to say for himself ON the pitch as he seems to OFF the pitch.

    I agree with you onthetwo

    "We are a top-four side"
Not with you in the team we're not, old chap.....

In fairness, Zokora played quite well in the first half on Sunday and does seem to be improving. He started the season well, even on the back of a world cup tournament and a transfer to a different league. He needs time to adjust like any world class midfielder coming to the Premiership, and he is only just finding his physical form after that bout of malaria.
Furthermore the "chap" has to speak when interviewed, whether he likes it or not, and I really don't think any of our players should be slagged off for uttering hints of ambition no matter how they are performing.

I'd rather everyone just kept the focus on each new game as it comes. A top four finish is out of the question. European qualification looks highly unlikely unless we start to put away teams. We need to crush Sheffield and press them for the whole 90...for once.

Totally agree with you 18Klinsmann, no matter how great certain players are they require a season to fully adjust to the physical and pace of the premiereship (i.e Dogba). Zok will come good with time, we just need to back ALL our players as long as they are wearing the spurs jersey and NOT undermine their confidences.

I think we lacked a little bit more than just concentration....

I'm sick of hearing "the lads are gutted", "we're a top four side", "we were unlucky", after every game....when will we just show some fight and determination?

He must be crazy. Maybe he meant tenth.

We are a world away from being a top four side right now.

The pressure is on. We so badly need a result this weekend.

I admire the man for his optimism, but he must be suffering from some mild form of self delusion, probably an after symptom of his little Malaria bout!

He's a good player though, and deserves a season to adapt to the Premiership.

I have to admit I agree with you on that one. Why do other teams always look more determined than we do to get a result.
  12. batigol
Yup, agree with mawspurs. We need to fight like Reading, Boltan, Everton does. We might have more flair but we are even more flimsy than Arse when we meet teams who are prepared to be dogged and do the dirty work to win.

He's probably fairly close to being right that we are a top four club. That is, when you compare squads these days. The problem as we know is what has been happening on the park. This makes us look like a mid-table side. Still, you do need to be ambitious to make progress so I am not going to criticise him too much.
  14. Captain Spur
Fourth spot thats a good one.
  15. alfiespurs
A lot of talk, lets put this to action ! I like to see a top 4 performance against the Blades ... A MUST WIN GAME !
  16. Boaman
We're talking the talk but aint walking the walk. Before and after every game somebody says something that contradicts the performance, we are not a top team at the moment. Top teams win away from home and don't lose at home to Newcastle.

Zokora has been poor recently but like someone says above he deserves time to settle

    TOP FOUR??!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA:rofl:

He's a funny guy... or completely crazy? :duh:
  18. Issac
What an optimistic lad. He might as well say we have a good chance of winning the title this season. I mean, the treble.
